Following the car crash that sadly claimed Paul Walker’s life two weeks ago, Universal Pictures is still trying to figure out how to approach the final movie he was filming, Fast & Furious 7.
After reversing their decision to return to the Atlanta set just days after the accident, electing to instead halt the film’s production indefinitely, sources updated The Hollywood Reporter on its development.
Screenwriter Chris Morgan is working on revisions to the script that could set Fast 7back into gear as early as mid-January. Chris will attempt to salvage the completed scenes of Paul’s—“almost exactly half of his role was done,” a source said—to give the actor and character an appropriate send-off.
Fan base support to complete the film has Universal considering every option, a studio insider posed: “What will drive everything is, ‘Is there an honorable and sensible way to do this?’ But there’s not really a road map.”
It’s definitely a delicate situation—What’s exploitive? What’s too manipulative?—not to mention it’s a film where fast cars are central to its premise.
Paul’s death factors into all decisions with the narrative, and at this point many are debating what the most honorable send-off will be without disrupting the story and staying true to his character: to have his character die in a race (possibly in an effort to save someone, one rumor has it), or bow out from the group gracefully.
