The future of Fast & Furious 7 is still unclear. Universal Pictures has indefinitely shut down all production of the film following its lead star Paul Walker’s death on November 30th.
Cast and crew were already on Thanksgiving break when the car accident occurred, but it’s since put an abrupt halt to the shooting schedule for an unforeseeable length of time. Executives behind the scenes need to “assess all options available to move forward with the franchise,” Universal announced today, as well as allowing the cast and crew time to grieve for their co-star and friend.
The film was initially slated for a summer release, but that July 11th release date is likely to be postponed.
Universal didn’t mention a change in the release in their statement, just that right now they are “dedicated to providing support to Paul’s immediate family and our extended Fast & Furious family of cast, crew and filmmakers.”
An autopsy report today confirmed that Paul was killed by both the impact of the crash, along with the fire that resulted in the wreckage. The L.A. County coroner concluded that the driver, Paul’s friend and business partner Roger Rodas, died from the impact alone.
