Former Chelsea manager Guus Hiddink has resigned as manager of Russian side Anzhi Makhachkala after signing a new contract at the club last month. He has turned down several clubs in recent years and was linked with the Paris St Germain job, after the resignation of new Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti. The 66-year-old has been replaced by former Manchester United coach Rene Meultensteen at Anzhi. Hiddink said it was not an easy decision to resign as manager of the Russian side. “I’ve always said that my mission with Anzhi would end when the club was able to develop and grow by itself without my participation,” said Hiddink. “Now that time has come. I am convinced that the club has a great future and I am glad I was part of this large-scale football project.” Hiddink, who led Chelsea to 2009 FA Cup glory, also had a short spell at Real in 1998-99.
