ASUP suspends 11-week strike

The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) on Tuesday, April 16, suspended an 11-week strike that had commenced since April 29, 2013. The president of the union, Mr. Chibuzor Asomogba, in a chat with News Agency of Nigeria, said “We have decided to suspend the strike from July 17,” after a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting.

Confirming the suspension of the strike, the union’s national publicity secretary, Comrade, Clement Chirman, ASUP said: “The suspension is also to allow the Joint-committee liaise with relevant ministries, agencies and parastatals with a view to tackling all the issues contained in the union’s demands within a time-frame of one month as against the two weeks earlier requested by the committee.”

Asomogba stated that all ASUP members are expected to resume work today, Wednesday 17th July, 2013.
