The festival maybe over in Germany but the learning and the recognition are all but to be remembered in this year’s Internationale Filmfestspiele Berlin. Held last 7 to 17 February, the Berlinale was both awe-inspiring and thought-provoking. However, more than the promotion, critiques, and forecasted distribution of the movies, what’s more interesting are the congruent activities that taught more of how film industries operate. Thanks to DW Akademie, other countries like South Africa, Nigeria, Mexico and Laos get to learn from one of the most prestigious film festivals, and have it as inspiration to further develop their own silver screen gatherings in their respective countries. Berlinale’s mission is “to champion excellent storytelling regardless of colour or creed”, an excellent description by TheNationalStudent.com’s Adam Ferrell. Another important goal of the festival is to promote films as an essential economic factor of Germany. It’s any industry’s mission, whether movies, sports, casinos etc. Aside from the film industry that’s successful in Europe, online and casino gaming are outstanding illustrations of how proper promotions and networking can earn revenues for the Deutsch country. In just a short span of time, having just boomed in the early 2000s and despite being the same nature as with films which is entertainment, online casino gaming has become a widely accepted form of social leisure. That in turn strengthens other industries like tourism and technology. Online gaming sites like http://de.partycasino.com/ are instrumental to successful networking so as to develop the intertwined industries of Germany. With Partycasino and its affiliate gaming sites, they not only promote casino and card games in a positive light, they also provide avenues for enthusiasts to play in a secure environment, and be part of a community, a network of like-minded people to share expertise and even organise casino-related events. DW Akademie, Germany’s media development centre, made it an advocacy for ten years now, inviting film festival organizers of different countries to be part of a five-week "Film Festival and Event Management" workshop in Berlin. "Our workshops aim to help professionalize individual festivals. We look at organizational and planning aspects but another goal is to develop networks," says Pamela Schobess, DW project manager. Networking is the essence of making events successful. Prestigious events are not without hassles, and the interconnections of different industry leaders will certainly maintain proper professionalism and high standards. “It starts at the group level, and then expands exponentially during the Berlinale itself,” Schobess adds. “This is where the participants from Bangladesh, Bhutan, Bolivia, Laos, Mexico, Nigeria, Pakistan, Senegal, Tunisia, Trinidad and Uganda meet with Berlinale staff and managers, and become part of festival life with all its receptions, tours and one-on-one talks,” according to the centre’s article. Events such as the Berlinale promote more than the films but also important aspects of the events behind such festivities. These affairs are not just put up for audience to revel or criticize movies. It is there to help a country succeed. Other countries will sure get to learn from such accomplishments of Germany.
