Did You Know: That Being Retweeted 500 Times Can Get You Jailed In China?

<br />
<div style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 22px; margin-top: 12px;">
<b>Details
 of a new law issued by China’s supreme court are bound to make loose
talkers on Sina Weibo* and other social media platforms think twice
before speaking freely.</b></div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 22px; margin-top: 12px;">
</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 22px; margin-top: 12px;">
The law says that any libelous posts or messages will be considered
“severe” breaches of the law if they are visited or clicked on more than
 5,000 times or retweeted more than 500 times.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 22px; margin-top: 12px;">
</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 22px; margin-top: 12px;">
Those found guilty could face up to three years in jail, reports Chinese state media.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 22px; margin-top: 12px;">
As if that weren’t alarming enough, the threshold for being charged with
 this crime includes offenses as vague and subjective as “damaging the
national image” and “causing adverse international effects.”</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 22px; margin-top: 12px;">
The law is the latest attempt to crack down on “black PR firms,”
companies that make money from removing unflattering information from
the internet.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 22px; margin-top: 12px;">
Among other things, black PR firms often target companies, spreading
gossip or misinformation about them, and then approaching them for
payment in exchange for removing the smear campaign.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 22px; margin-top: 12px;">
It’s a big business, the Sina Weibo accounts controlled by a huge black
PR firm that was just busted had a total audience of 220 million
followers.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 22px; margin-top: 12px;">
Since the campaign against “rumor-mongering” and “spreading false
information” picked up in June, Shanghai police have opened more than
380 cases, while Henan police have investigated a whopping 463 cases,
making 131 arrests.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 22px; margin-top: 12px;">
And it’s not just Sina Weibo. The police are also watching Tencent’s
WeChat, which is organized mainly around private circles of friends.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 22px; margin-top: 12px;">
But for every big black PR firm bust, authorities also seem to be ensnaring a lot of innocent users of social media.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 22px; margin-top: 12px;">
For example, in late August, a women in Anhui province posted on Sina
Weibo that 16 people died in a car accident that had just taken place,
when the death toll was only 10.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 22px; margin-top: 12px;">
Local police placed her under “administrative detention” for five days as punishment for “spreading rumors.”</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 22px; margin-top: 12px;">
In another case, a 20-year-old Anhui woman was imprisoned for posting
the comment “I heard there was a murder in Louzhuang—is there anyone who
 knows what actually happened?” on a Baidu discussion board.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 22px; margin-top: 12px;">
The post, which was clicked on 1,000 times, counted as “disrupting social order”.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 22px; margin-top: 12px;">
In late August, a Weibo user stoked online discussion with a post saying
 that the “five heroes of Langya Mountain”—martyrs in the war against
the Japanese who are a source of Communist Party pride—had actually been
 army deserters who oppressed the local villagers of Langya, and that
the latter eventually gave them up to the Japanese.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 22px; margin-top: 12px;">
This, determined the local police, “created unhealthy social effects”.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 22px; margin-top: 12px;">
Authorities arrested and held the Weibo user under administrative
detention for seven days. Something similar happened with four people
who “defamed” the Party mascot, Lei Feng.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 22px; margin-top: 12px;">
The new clarifications have big implications for harmless online
chatter. If the posts of an amateur historian or inquisitive citizen
garner enough attention, the author could face three years in prison</div>

When in late 2011, Davido made a brief show of his music talent, some
might have thought that he would just come, briefly reign, and go
underground as it has happened to several Nigerian artistes. <br /><br />But
 two years almost gone, the 'Omo Baba Olowo' crooner is still waxing
stronger by the day. He is one of the top artistes in Nigeria. <br /><br />According
 to Nollywood 'bad girl' actress, Tonto Dikeh, Davido is underrated. She
 bore her mind on Davido in a tweet on her twitter page today. <br /><br /><b>"I think Davido is fantastic and underrated," </b>the Ikwere, Rivers State-born actress posted. <br /><br />Tonto,
 who has also tried her luck in music, just like her other colleagues,
has not had a fair share of commendations from fans. She was lambasted
for going into music, which many people believe the actress does not
have what it takes to be a musician.

fake @JOkocha10 handle had since garnered over 6,810 fans.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">However, with just one

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; line-height: 19.5px; padding: 0px 0px 5px; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Although his fans had
extended a hand of fellowship to him on the network, many of them have,
however, slammed him saying he joined the network a bit late.  One of
such is Oluwasina Okeleji, who tweets via the handle, @oluwasina. </span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; line-height: 19.5px; padding: 0px 0px 5px; text-align: justify;">

<div style="background-color: white; line-height: 19.5px; padding: 0px 0px 5px; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">He argued that Kanu’s
decision to join Twitter might have encouraged him (Okocha) to sign up
for the social network. It will be recalled that Kanu joined Twitter on
April 11.</span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; line-height: 19.5px; padding: 0px 0px 5px; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; line-height: 19.5px; padding: 0px 0px 5px; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"> “Obviously, he (Okocha) was waiting for Papilo (Kanu) <i>abi</i> lol?” Okeleji  asked. An anonymous reader on<i>lindaikeji.blogspot.com</i> asked Okocha, <i>“Na today day break? Welcome sha!”</i></span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; line-height: 19.5px; padding: 0px 0px 5px; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; line-height: 19.5px; padding: 0px 0px 5px; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Some yet criticised him
for the tone and language with which he used for the tweet. An anonymous
 fan said it seemed as if the author of the tweet is an ‘agbero’ – a
motor park tout.”</span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; line-height: 19.5px; padding: 0px 0px 5px; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; line-height: 19.5px; padding: 0px 0px 5px; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Welcoming Okocha to the
“bird family”,  a fan, Enebeli Jonas ( @Calljonas) advised him not to
abandon his account in the way Nigerian politicians do after elections.</span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; line-height: 19.5px; padding: 0px 0px 5px; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; line-height: 19.5px; padding: 0px 0px 5px; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Jonas said, “Jay Jay
Okocha, great you are on Twitter. I am an eternal fan. Abeg make you dey
 tweet o. No abandon your account like our politicians do.”</span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; line-height: 19.5px; padding: 0px 0px 5px; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; line-height: 19.5px; padding: 0px 0px 5px; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Reacting to Okocha’s plea for a cordial relationship with his fans on the network, a reader on<i>lindaikeji.blogspot.com</i> also said, <i>“Nobody
 go fall your hand but if you want, we go help you fall am well well.
You know every every for naija nah. I go follow you sha.”</i></span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; line-height: 19.5px; padding: 0px 0px 5px; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; line-height: 19.5px; padding: 0px 0px 5px; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">While many of his fans
see nothing bad in Okocha asking Twitter users to follow him, some
argued that it was wrong for an ex-footballer in the standing of Okocha
to beg accordingly. One of such persons is Gladstone Awoniyi, who
tweeted at Okocha  via @gladstoneawoniyi.</span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; line-height: 19.5px; padding: 0px 0px 5px; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; line-height: 19.5px; padding: 0px 0px 5px; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">He queried Okocha for
“begging” people to follow him, arguing that his fans on the social
network would naturally follow him without him asking for a follow back.</span></div>

Xclusive: FIFA President Sepp Blatter's Twitter Account Hacked

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://cdn.360nobs.pagenanny.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/blatter-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="234" src="http://cdn.360nobs.pagenanny.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/blatter-1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
Some media agencies thought FIFA President Sepp Blatter had stepped down until it was discovered that both his Twitter account and Fifa’s were hacked by “Syrian Electronic Army” not too long ago.<br />
The Swiss posted several incriminating messages, with the official World Cup account also hijacked to “confirm” that he would resign “due to corruption charges”.<br />
<br />
After nearly half an hour of increasingly unlikely statements, it was revealed that a group called the ‘Syrian Electronic Army’, supportive of the country's leader, Bashar Al-Assad, had taken over the account.<br />
<br />
The group has hacked several high-profile Twitter users in recent weeks to advance their political agenda.<br />
<br />
Blatter’s account began by asking:<br />
<br />
“So what if I took money from Qatari prince? I am the family’s bread earner,” before declaring himself unrepentant.<br />
<br />
“His excellency the emir of Qatar has been the most generous figure I have even met,” it wrote. “I do not apologize for my decision. I have done the best for Fifa. For almost 15 years I have toiled for this organization.<br />
<br />
“I have recommended his excellency prince Ali Bin Al Hussein of Jordan as my successor. The royal family has done much for Fifa, I am sure Jordan will make an excellent host for 2030.”<br />
<br />
The official World Cup account was made to announce:<br />
<br />
“Sepp Blatter has been investigated for multiple charges of bribery. Emails between the Qatari foreign ministry and Mr Blatter were found to conspire against some teams.”<br />
