A middle  aged woman,
Ene Edem Okon, has been arrested by the police 
for allegedly  inflicting bodily
harm and tying her 11-year-old daughter, Queeneth Ene Edem, hands and legs  for being wayward. She was arrested when
Queeneth appeared in her school, Government Primary School, Akim, with multiple
wounds on her chest, stomach and buttocks prompting the school authorities to
report the matter to the police at the Akim Police Station.</div>

The girl  narrated to
Sunday Vanguard that, on  February 17,
she left  home at  Eneyo village in Akpabuyo  Local Government Area for  the Maternity Junction Settlement, some four
kilometers away from  home, to meet her
cousin, one Blessing, but did not return home. “We were waiting for Blessing’s
friend from whom she wanted to collect something but she delayed in coming and
we waited till night and, because we were afraid of  going back home, we slept in an uncompleted
building at the Maternity Junction”, she said.</div>

he 11-year-old said the next day, one of her friends saw her
at the Maternity Junction and told her that her mother  was looking  
for her with a machete after which she became afraid to go  back home. 
“We stayed on the road near  our house and were breaking kernel to eat
when my mother sent somebody  to come and
catch us. That  person  came pretending to play with us but  suddenly 
grabbed me and dragged me to my
mother”.</div>

The mother, angry, allegedly got hold of her and used a rod
to hit her all over her body, thus leaving 
her with severe wounds. “She also put the kitchen knife in the fire she
was cooking and when it was hot, she placed 
it on my buttocks”, the girl stated.</div>

When Sunday Vanguard met Mrs Ene Okon at the Akim Police
Station, she appeared  remorseful,  stating that 
she was driven by anger because Queeneth 
was stubborn and had formed the habit of spending the night outside at
such a tender age. “I  sent her  to school in far away Calabar because I don’t
trust the school here in Akpabuyo but she is just too stubborn, so I had to
teach her a lesson.”</div>

Mr Hogan Bassey, the police spokesman for Cross River Police
Command, said the woman would  appear in
court after investigations are concluded.</div>

Mr Bassey Ibor, a 
child rights activist, said children’s courts in the state are not
functioning and called on the state government to fund the courts. “The cases
we have taken to the children’s courts 
have suffered long adjournments because the judges are not sitting.
Government should, as a matter of urgency, ensure that the courts are funded so
that these children would not continue 
to be denied of justice.”

 days, he took care of our daughter, always changing her diapers, making

More than 45 persons including some unidentified security operatives 
have been killed by suspected armed Fulani herdsmen in Agatu Local 
Government Area of Benue state.<br /> <br /> The killing occurred when armed
 men numbering about seven hundred invaded the community. They 
reportedly killed 38 persons on Sunday while the others were murdered in
 another fresh heinous attack in the early hours of today.<br /> <br /> 
Thousands of people including fishermen and government workers were 
displaced, even as majority of the victims of the attack had fled to 
Ogbokpo, the headquarters of Agatu LGA and to some neighboring Igala 
villages in Kogi state.<br /> <br /> The entire clans of Agatu LGA, 
churches, market places, schools and government offices were completely 
closed down, just as workers could not go to work for fear of being 
killed by the herdsmen.

 strong, ever since the split of KC Presh; he has surpassed every 
expectations and risen into such a huge star on his own, hit after hit. 
In this interview, Kcee talks about his new album, his  split with Presh
 and what transpired between him and actress Ebube Nwagbo.  Excerpt:

<strong>Who inspired you into music ?</strong><br />
Basically, I will say music is  something I have passion for.  I started
 singing  from  the church choir until I won the talent hunt show. Since
 then, I have been doing my thing and making my own  impact on the 
nation’s music scene. Music is my life , it’s  my profession and that’s 
what I do for a living.<br />

<strong>What brought about the split between you and Presh?</strong><br />
I don’t know what people really want to know about my break up with 
Presh. But what I know is that we are no more doing business together  
and we collectively decided to pursue solo careers after 12 years of 
performing as a group. That’s what we are doing now. We didn’t quarrel 
or beef each other. It was a joint agreement that we should pursue solo 
careers.   It wasn’t because of money or anything. I think it just 
happened that way, we never saw the break-up coming. We just had an idea
 to do separate albums and that’s what is happening right now.<br />
<strong>So how did you meet Presh ?</strong><br />
I met him in a church choir  and we were running the choir together 
after which we entered for the Star Quest TV reality show together and 
won the show.<br />

<strong>Now that you are no longer together , is there anything you did then that you find difficult to do now ?</strong><br />

Of course  yes , because formally I used to  record together with my 
partner and then, it’s  either am doing the verse or he’s doing the 
chorus.  But right now, I’m doing everything alone which is a plus and 
more so, I have a kind of music that people can  identify with my voice 
as K-Cee. So, when they hear my music, they will know its me . I think 
its an achievement for me to let people know my real person.<br />

<strong>Are you trying to say that you’ve not been faced with challenges after the split ?</strong><br />
The truth is that  there has been one or two challenges  but by the 
grace of God, they are not too difficult to overcome because breaking up
 with your partner was not easy thing. I am trying to make  people to 
believe in me and in my talent.  Two years down the drain, I already 
have a couple of songs which my fans have come to love so much. I don’t 
know if I should say am missing something. But all the same, am fine.<br />

<strong>How many songs have you done after the split ?</strong><br />
Generally, I have done eight songs after the split. I  have ‘such songs as ’Now I Know’ ,Okpekete ,Okpekete remix,Tor tori.<br />

<strong>Are you missing Presh ?</strong><br />
I think I’m getting more attention now than before. The attention I’m 
getting now is bigger than what I was getting when we were together.<br />

<strong>…Meaning that you did not regret splitting with Presh ?</strong><br />
For me, I have no regret because it  was a mutual decision taken by the 
group to show their fans their individual genre of music. I have been 
working to stay on top of my game. I’m not sleeping, This is a time for 
salvation  because I have been working towards  this achievement. So, no
 regret at all .<br />

<strong>So, how did you start working together ?</strong><br />
I started it. I met him at the church and I approached him. We used to 
be  four in the group then;myself, Presh , Domino and Emmy .Later, the 
other two left to pursue their dreams. At a point, Presh was no longer 
interested but later he came back to join forces with me.<br />

<strong>How was life like before you got to this level ?</strong><br />
Of course, it has not been easy trying to do good music, and  making 
people happy each time they hear your muisc. You have to work and work 
until you get the right sound, and also,  you need the energy to push 
and promote your song. It is really not easy. It could be stressful and 
fun sometimes. But the thing is that you don’t  need to give up, you 
need to keep  pushing it that’s why we are alive. For me, things have 
not been rosy<br />

<strong>What really happened between you and Ebube Nwagbo ?</strong><br />
What happened between us was nothing  more than having fun. That’s what 
my new song titled ‘’Limpopo ‘ is all about. It mean let’s have fun.<br />

<strong>Any memorable experience so far ?</strong><br />
I always remember the day I won Star Quest TV reality show competition. 
It was memorable for me because it actually gave me the opportunity to 
express myself. Anytime, I remember that day, I always feel happy. I 
never believed KC Presh could win Star Quest. When we entered for the 
competition in 2002, after Eedris Abdul Kareem advised us to do so.<br />

That day, I cried and people did not know why I was crying. I 
reminisced, recounting the experience that transformed my  life forever.
 The reason was that God had broken the chains of poverty in my life and
 taken me to a greater height. I knew I was going to make use of that 
opportunity because of the hunger I had exhibited while winning the 
competition. I couldn’t help  but to shed tears of joy.<br />

After we  got their first N1million cheque, courtesy of Star Quest 
reality TV show,I bought a Mercedez Benz 190. And I was cruising around 
town then with the new car.<br />

<strong>How do you treat your female fans ?</strong><br />
Some of my colleagues get carried away when it comes to women. But 
interestingly, women are part of the entertainment business. Now, what 
matters is your ability to control them. It’s very important to you as 
an entertainer if you want to succeed.  When you pay some artistes for a
 show, they move into a hotel for the next one month blowing the money, 
hanging out with girls and just having fun without remembering to 
invest.<br />

Like I said, my father was a DJ, so, I heard the story of other 
musicians first hand who made it big and then crashed later. When we 
started making money, we remembered to invest. We toured all the 36 
states of the federation with so many brands, including Nestle, and we 
made so much money and the women were coming.<br />

But we made sure we invested. Though they love me so much and I  love
 them too. I handle them the way they want me to handle them . That’s 
why I said, in my song that  I want to be your maga so they should use 
me as they want .<br />

<strong>Are you still single because we heard you were once married ?</strong><br />
I have never married before, the person that got married was my brother 
but people thought I was the one. There was nothing like me having 
extra-marital affair or a love kid. They are all lies.<br />

<strong>Tell us more about your Limpopo song?</strong><br />
Limpopo is my latest song which I did with Harry song and I did it the

On Tuesday May 7th, Nassarawa State Commissioner of Police sent police 
officers, SSS and Civil Defense personnel to arrest the cult leader of a
 notorious militia group called 'Ombatse' (a cult group of the Eggon 
people of Nasarawa State) at Assakyo Village in Lafia, Nassarawa state. 
(Ombatse in Eggon language means “time has come”).</div>

The state government wanted to arrest the chief priest because the group
 had been causing security concerns in the state. Unfortunately for the 
police officers sent to pick the man up, as they approached the Ombatse

 them attacked and killed plenty of them. Many of the police officers 
were burnt beyond recognition.</div>

Also, out of the 11 police patrol vans used to convey 
the mobile policemen for the operation, eight were burnt beyond 
recognition by the militia group.<br />

The Nassarawa Commissioner of Police explains why they wanted to arrest the Ombatse cult leader:<br />

 was going about in mosques and churches forcing all people of Eggon 
extraction in and out of Lafia to drink a particular concoction prepared
 from herbs and anyone who failed to comply was beaten up and harassed.

priest be arrested to stop such activities.”</blockquote>
Only a few Ombatse worshipers were killed in an operation that lasted 
almost 24 hours, while at least 60 security operatives were killed. Over
 100 bodies, some of them burnt beyond recognition, were displayed at 
the Dalhatu Araf Specialist
 Hospital in Lafia for identifications by friends and relatives of the 
slain police men.<br />

The incident even forced President Jonathan to call off his planned visit to Namibia on Thursday.<br />

Moses Ogbaji is 29 years old, but his three-foot height sharply belies

As Benue state continues to grapple with the rising figures of HIV/AIDS 
in the state, Executive Secretary of the Benue State Agency for the 
Control of Aids (BENSACA), Mrs. Grace Wende has revealed that the agency
 recently discovered a 400-member homosexuals club existing in 
Makurdi,the Benue state capital.<br />        She said the organization 
otherwise known as Men Sleeping with Men, MSM, has a large membership of
 male students from higher institutions in the state.<br />

Wende who 
made this disclosure yesterday at a one day Training of Media 
Practioners on HIV/AIDS in Makurdi, said the existence of the g.ay club 
in the state was not helping the state government’s efforts at curbing 
the spread of the HIV virus in the state.<br />

Canadian partners in collaboration with BENSACA following the state 
government’s resolve to fight the increasing trend of HIV/AIDs in the

interacting with the group of young men who are mostly undergraduates in
 various higher institution of learning located in the state.” She 
stressed that the idea of identifying with the MSM which usually holds 
their meetings in December in Makurdi was meant to reduce the spread of 
HIV virus commonly found among them.<br />
        Mrs Wende further urged all 
stakeholders to join the fight against the virus in the state, 
stressing, “there is a heightened need for scale-up of effective and 
efficient HIV prevention efforts in the state if we must all win this 
war against the virus.”</blockquote>
