<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="mso-bidi-font-weight: bold;">We now know how
senators voted on the constitution amendment bill which caused an uproar in the
senate on Tuesday.<br />
READ: Senate Fails To Get Enough Votes To Deal Blow On Underage Marriage, Backs
Pension For Its Leadership<br />
<br />
The section up for amendment had to do with persons qualified to renounce
Nigerian citizenship. The constitution in Section 29 says anyone of age can do
so. Section 29(4) (b) says that ” any woman who is married shall be deemed to
be of full age.” It means that even a child if married can be seen to be of
full age and as such can renounce citizenship. The committee proposed that that
provision be deleted.<br />
<br />
When it was put to vote, 2/3 of members present voted for it which meant it was
deleted. But, not so fast.<br />
<br />
Enter Senator Ahmed Yerima of Zamfara, the controversial former governor of
Zamfara who tried to stoke religious sentiments. He said it was against Islamic
law. Yerima got married to a teenager a few years ago, and going by the
provision, the girl who is still not 18 cannot be said to be of age.<br />
<br />
Sen. Yerima needs to watch this video: Watch: Genius: Meet The Most Politically
Aware And Lucid 12 Year Old In The World<br />
<br />
He kicked and began to mobilise his fellow Muslims in the Senate and it was
threatening to cause confusion. Despite the senate president, David Mark
insisting that it could no longer be revisited as it had been voted upon,
Yerima continued his objection.<br />
<br />
Due to the sensitive nature, Mark had to call for another vote. At this point
the Senators who were in favour of this clause could no longer muster 2/3 of
the votes that will retain Section 29, Clause 4 (b). Senators still voted 60
votes to 35 votes for the clause to be deleted, but it did not satisfy the 2/3
requirement and so, according to the senate version, “any woman who is married
shall be deemed to be of full age.”<br />
<br />
Thanks to Sen. Babafemi Ojudu (Ekiti Central, ACN), we have the full list of

Xclusive: $27M Missing In Nigerian Embassy In US

<div style="text-align: justify;">
The Senate on Thursday began an inquest
into the alleged mismanagement of over $27m proceeds from the sale of
Federal Government properties by officials of the Nigerian Embassy in
the United States of America.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
This follows a petition to the President
 of the Senate, David Mark, by a non-governmental organisation,
Transform Nigeria Movement, praying the Senate to conduct an
investigation and make its findings known to the public.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The petition, which was signed by Mr.
Daniel Elombah, stated that between 2004 and 2007, the Nigerian Embassy
sold four prime properties of the Federal Government located in
Washington DC and Maryland.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The petitioner alleged that the embassy
also commenced the sale of other properties in San Francisco, California
 within the period.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Elombah stated in the petition, “Out of
those sales, Nigeria realised the sum of approximately $27m. All funds
realised from these sales, except those set aside as fees, were remitted
 to the Embassy of Nigeria in Washington DC.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
“As of June 2007, when the law firm that
 advised the embassy on the sale of the properties met with embassy
officials at the embassy premises in Washington, all these funds and
transactions were duly confirmed.”</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The petitioner also alleged that it was
confirmed that the embassy placed the funds in a special account with
the M & T Bank in Washington DC and remained in that position after
Ambassador George Obiozor had returned to Nigeria after completing his
service in Washington.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
TNM further alleged, “Surprisingly, the
Embassy of Nigeria left the money in Washington partly because it
yielded substantial monthly interests, which the embassy officials would
 never have to account for.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
“Those funds remained in those accounts
throughout the tenure of Ambassador Oluwole Rotimi; then arrived
Ambassador Adebowale Adefuye in Washington. When Adefuye got to
Washington, those funds were still lodged in the M & T Bank account
intact.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
“Between the time Adefuye became the
ambassador until March of 2012, the millions in the accounts
mysteriously disappeared. This became clear when M&T Bank was forced
 to close the accounts of the Nigerian Embassy and to terminate all
banking relations with the embassy at the beginning of 2012.”</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The petition had a cover note by the
Chief of Staff to the President of the Senate, Anthony Manzo, urging the
 Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs to treat it.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Upon the receipt of the petition, the
committee summoned Obiozor; Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the
United Nations, Ambassador Joy Ogwu; and Adefuye.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The Chairman of the committee, Senator
Matthew Nwagwu, while addressing the ambassadors on the purpose of the
investigation, said it was to unravel the mystery surrounding the
management of the funds.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
He said, “We have invited you because of
 an allegation of embezzlement in our mission in Washington,
particularly the sale of property in the US. It was alleged that the
proceeds of the sales have been squandered by certain officials.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
“Our job here is to give you a chance to
 address the committee and tell us what you know about the property
sale, management and administration of the accounts, while you were in
office. The committee has got a petition and we are not taking it on its
 face value; we want to give the ambassadors opportunities to explain
their own roles.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
“We are not a court of law, we are not
going on a trial, we are doing this for posterity and to keep the
records straight, and I am sure most of you will be happy that we have
invited you to have the opportunity to clarify the matter.”</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The committee decided that it would
conduct the investigative hearing behind closed doors, taking the
ambassadors separately and promised to brief the press on its findings
after the hearing.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

A very big disaster was averted last Sunday, May 19th, when an SAA
South African Airways Airbus A340-600, registration ZS-SNG performing
flight SA-60 from Johannesburg (South Africa) to Lagos (Nigeria)
conveying over 300 people developed an electrical fault in Mid-air. I
got this info from someone on the flight and i am suprised that it’s not
 in the news.<br />
<br />
I heard about it yesterday when a work colleague of mine was
narrating the entire story to me and another guy in his car. According
to him, he was on the flight that faithful day..it was a night flight
and he was listening to music from his Ipod when he perceived a foul
burning odor, he thought the white man sitting next to him had farted
but he knew it something more serious when he noticed people panicking.<br />
<br />

He pulled his headphones and asked the white guy sitting next to him
why people where panicking, all the white man was saying was ’’this
plane is going to crash! This plane s going to crash!..all of a sudden
the lighting system in the aircraft went off…everyone was mad with
fear.. some started praying others brought out their blackberries and
started pinging, some started calling loved ones and telling them their
last wishes.<br />

The captain then announced that the plane had developed an electrical
 fault and they were going to have an emergency landing. The pilot then
turned the plane around and headed back to South africa, My colleague
then revealed that it was then he saw 2face Idibia walk past him and
when he looked back he saw the popstar talking and calming his crew
down, telling them not to panic.<br />
<br />

After 45 minutes, the captain announced that they were going to ‘dump
 the fuel’ i.e remove all the jetfuel on the plane, this is a
precautionary step taken by pilots whenever a plane is going to crash or
 whenever there is a risk of fire. As they were about to land….another
problem came up…the captain announced that the tires of the plane could
not come out..by then everyone on the plane had given up.<br />
<br />

Miraculously, the tires came out and the plane successfully landed
and the passengers were evacuated. My colleague then said that himself
and other passengers were taken to the arrival lounge, that was when he
met Tony Anenih’s wife,Josephine, they talked and exchanged cards.<br />
<br />

After much investigation, it was a kettle that sparked in the kitchen
 that affected the whole electrical system of the plane. According to my
 colleague a lot of Nigerians including senators constituted the bulk of
 passengers.
