Xclusive: Apple Patent Win - Samsung Banned From Selling Some Phones In U.S.

 alleged that several Samsung products infringe on its patents. Apple 
originally filed this lawsuit against Samsung in 2011, and it's just one
 of dozens of ongoing patent lawsuits currently being waged between the 
tech titans across the globe. In this latest case, the International Trade Commission ruled in favor 
of Apple. The commission said Samsung products infringed on two Apple 
patents, one for touchscreen multitouch and another related to headset 
plug detection. The court ruled Samsung did not infringe on four other 
patents listed in Apple's claim.  <br />
<br />
The ITC banned Samsung from 
importing or selling some devices that infringe on the Apple patents. 
While the devices Apple mentioned in the case are older Samsung products
 -- like the Galaxy Tab 7 tablet and the Continuum smartphone -- the 
ITC's ruling could have implications for phones currently on the market 
that use the same technology. <br />
 <br />
But Samsung has the chance to 
release software updates to work around the infringement -- for example,
 customers would still use multitouch the same way they always did, but 
Samsung would change how that worked from a technical perspective. <br />
 <br />
Tech companies like to bring their cases before the ITC because it's 
generally easier to get that court to ban the sale of patent-violating 
products, when compared with the traditional patent court system. <br />
 
 U.S. import bans are obviously serious concerns for foreign companies 
like South Korea-based Samsung. But they're just as problematic for 
those headquartered in America because most tech products -- including 
Apple's -- are assembled overseas and must be imported. <br />
 <br />
Even if
 Samsung weren't able to figure out a workaround, there's a chance the 
ITC's import ban won't stick. Earlier this summer the ITC ruled on 
Samsung's own 2011 filing against Apple -- and it ended with the agency 
issuing an import ban
 on Apple products. But the ITC is required by law to send such 
"exclusion orders" to the president for a 60-day review. In an extremely
 rare move, President Obama vetoed that ITC order just before the review
 period was up.<br />

Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe railed against President Obama during
 a recent campaign rally, arguing that the U.S. president wanted to 
force Africa to "embrace homoséxuality." <br /><br />The African leader 
often criticizes homoséxuality or other perceived enemies to gin up 
populist support, but the turn against Obama included a new comment. <br /><br />"Then
 we have this American president, Obama, born of an African father, who 
is saying we will not give you aid if you don’t embrace homoséxuality," 
Mugabe said. <br /><br />"We ask, was he born out of homosexuality? We need 
continuity in our race, and that comes from the woman, and no to 
homoséxuality. John and John, no. Maria and Maria, no." <br /><br />He then 
broke briefly into Shona, a native Zimbabwean language, before 
concluding, it’s not clear about whom, “"f they don’t, we will cut their
 heads off." <br /><br />Mugabe also reiterated his oft-repeated <span class="IL_AD" id="IL_AD7">comparison</span> between homoséxuals and pigs. <br /><br />"They
 are worse than dogs and pigs, yes worse than dogs and pigs," he said. 
"I keep pigs and the male pig knows the female one." <br /><br />Parts of the speech, including some of the swipe at Obama, were independently reported in the Zimbabwean outlet NewsDay. <br /><br />Mugabe
 is facing reelection on July 31. It’s the country’s first presidential 
vote since a violence-ridden 2008 election that was met with such 
international outcry that Mugabe was forced to accept a power-sharing 
arrangement with one of his rivals, though he has appeared to largely 
maintain power. <br /><br />Mugabe has run Zimbabwe since 1980 and is now 89 years old but shows no signs of ceding power willingly. <br /><br />Attitudes
 toward homoséxuality are negative in much of sub-Saharan Africa, where 
homophobia is often used by populist leaders looking for an easy enemy 
or a way to divert from tougher issues. <br /><br />The Obama 
administration’s plan to support gay rights in Africa has at times been 
met with a backlash and a belief among some that the United States 
wishes to impose homoséxuality on Africans. Just for good measure, 
Mugabe also criticized Britain, which he called, in an almost 
word-for-word reproduction of long-held North Korean propaganda tropes, 
"a very cold, uninhabitable country with small houses."

A letter addressed to President Obama that field-tested
positive for the poison ricin was received at the remote White House mail
screening facility Tuesday, according to law enforcement officials. </div>

The facility routinely identifies letters or parcels that require secondary
screening or scientific testing before delivery.<br />
<br />
The separate Senate mail-handling facility also Tuesday received a suspicious
letter potentially laced with ricin addressed to Sen. Roger Wicker of
Mississippi, postmarked from Memphis.<br />
<br />
Testing on the first letter, addressed to Republican Wicker, is incomplete but
expected to be finished this afternoon.<br />
<br />
The Secret Service's White House mail-screening facility is a remote facility,
not located near the White House complex, that all White House mail goes
through.<br />
<br />
The Secret Service is working closely with the U.S. Capitol Police and the FBI
in this investigation.<br />
<br />
"The investigation into these letters remains ongoing, and more letters
may still be received," the FBI said in a statement this morning.
"There is no indication of a connection to the attack in Boston."<br />
<br />
The bureau added: "It is important to note that operations at the White
House have not been affected as a result of the investigation.<br />
<br />
"Additionally, filters at a second government mail screening facility
preliminarily tested positive for ricin this morning. Mail from that facility
is being tested."<br />
<br />
FBI sources say anytime suspicious powder is located in a mail facility, field
tests are conducted. The field and other preliminary tests in this instance
produced inconsistent results. The material has been sent to an accredited
laboratory for further analysis.<br />
<br />
Only a full analysis performed at an accredited laboratory can determine the
presence of a biological agent such as ricin. Those tests are in the process of
being conducted and generally take from 24 to 48 hours.<br />
<br />
Field tests are often unreliable, and a false positive for ricin occurs at
least once each year, a homeland security official said.<br />
