Xclusive News: First Lady, Patience Jonathan’s Mum Dies In Car Crash In Rivers State?

THERE was anxiety in Port Harcourt on Monday as news of the death of 
Mrs. Iwari-Oba, the mother of the wife of President Goodluck Jonathan, 
Patience,  spread in the Rivers State capital. The mother of Mrs. Jonathan was said to have been involved in a ghastly motor accident along Elele Road in Rivers State.

It was gathered that the woman, who is from Okrika Local Government 
Area, was on her way to Bayelsa State when the accident happened. Unconfirmed report indicated that her corpse was taken to Kpaiyama 
Mortuary by a team of policemen and a member representing Ogu Bolo State
 Constituency, Mr. Evans Bipi, who is a relative to the deceased.

Though, the police and the Federal Road Safety Commission in the 
state could not confirm the incident, an aide to Bipi said the First 
Lady’s mother died in a road accident, which occurred at about 4pm. Bipi’s aide, Mr. Fred Itobo, told <i>The PUNCH</i> that the President’s wife’s mother was involved in the accident while she was on her way to Bayelsa State.

“Yes! She was involved in an accident and she died. Her body has been
 taken to a mortuary. Bipi was among those who took her body to the 
mortuary,” Itobo said.<br />

When contacted, the State Director of FRSC, Dr. Kayode Olagunju, 
declined comment on the matter, saying, “I cannot say anything on this 
matter now until I get full details.” Though effort to get reactions from the State Police Public Relations
 Officer, Mrs. Angela Agabe, proved futile, she had already told a 
journalist on the telephone that she had not been briefed on such crash.

Mrs Jimoh Mulikat Adebukola and her six-year-old twins were caught at
 Lagos Airport carrying 4.050 kg of substance confirmed as cocaine. 
She concealed 3.350kg in almost every part of her body, including on her
 chest and underwear.<br />

good education. I also have younger ones and aged parents to take care 
of. They asked me to swallow the drugs, but I was afraid, that is why I

Vault and Garden Cemetery, Ikoyi, Lagos, Southwest Nigeria.<br />

The late 
Mogaji, who was the President General, Association of Nigerian Market 
Women and Men died in her home on Saturday at Sunday Adigun, Alausa in 
Ikeja at the age of 96.<br />
Prayers were offered for her at the Lagos 
Central Mosque by the Chief Imam of Lagos State, Garuba Akinola, who was
 represented by Mujitabah Giwa.<br />

In his sermon, the cleric said there 
were many things to emulate in the life of the late Mogaji as she lived 
an exemplary life worthy of emulation and urged all to emulate her good 
virtue.<br />

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested four boys for allegedly raping a 14-year-old girl in the Mile 12 area of the state.<br />

PUNCH Metro learnt that the suspects, Wale Badejo, Jubril Yusuf, 
Olusanya Remi and Wale Oluwafemi, who are between the ages 18 and 19, 
allegedly abducted the victim on her way to school and took turns raping
 her.<br />
<br />

According to the police, the suspects held the victim for over seven 
hours and threatened to kill her if she told anybody about what happened
 to her.<br />

A member of the victim’s family, who craved anonymity, said the incident occurred on May 30, 2013.<br />

She said, “She (the victim) told us that one of the suspects, who 
also lived in the area, had been making sexual advances to her for 
sometime but she always rebuffed him. The boy (Oluwafemi) and her 
friends then vowed to deal with her, calling her a proud person.<br />
<br />

“She schools at Maryland and because of the distance of the school from home, she leaves home around 6:30am every day.<br />
<br />

“On the day of the incident, the boys came on two motorcycles, grabbed her and took her to Oluwafemi’s house at Agiliti.<br />
<br />

“The boys blindfolded her and stuffed her mouth with cloth. The boys 
then took pictures of the barbaric act and made a video recording which 
they said they would upload on Facebook. The boys further threatened to 
kill her if she told anybody about what had happened.”<br />
<br />

PUNCH Metro learnt that when the victim returned home, she did not 
inform her parents about what had transpired for fear of being killed.<br />
<br />

It was learnt that a resident, who had seen the rape pictures on the 
phone of one of the suspects, reported the incident to the victim’s 
parents.<br />
<br />

It was learnt that the victim’s mother immediately reported the 
matter to the Ketu Police Division and the suspects were arrested on 
June 6.<br />
<br />

Our correspondent, who visited the victim’s home on Dada Street, 
learnt that the suspects had been accused of similar offences in the 
past.<br />
<br />

A resident, who craved anonymity said, “The boys have been accused of
 raping other girls in the area. They always get away with it and we 
hope they will be prosecuted this time.”<br />
<br />

The case, however, took a sudden twist when the victim’s family said they did not want the case to be taken to court.<br />

The victim’s mother, Iyabo, said, “The families of the suspects have 
been begging us since the incident occurred and we have decided to let 
the case go.<br />
<br />

“I was pained when I learnt my daughter was raped, but since we are 
all neighbours and taking into consideration the ages of the boys, we 
believe it is best to forgive and forget.<br />
<br />

“One of the suspects is even an orphan and his 75-year-old 
grandmother has pleaded with us. For the sake of peace, we do not want a
 case anymore.<br />
<br />

“My daughter has been taken to hospital for treatment and so far, no 
illness has been found in her blood. She has also received counselling 
and she will soon resume school.”<br />
<br />

A police situation report made available to our correspondent by the 
police ‘B’ operations department stated that, “On June 6,2013, the 
mother of the victim reported at Mile 12 Police Post that the suspects 
conspired and had carnal knowledge of her daughter, who is 14 years old.<br />
<br />

“The mother said around 6.30am, when her daughter was on her way to 
school, the suspects grabbed her and forced her into their room at Dada 
Street and had sex with her one after the other. They also threatened to
 kill her daughter and throw her into the river if she told her parents.<br />
<br />

“The victim said they blindfolded her and covered her mouth with 
cloth. The suspects have confessed and will be charged to court.”<br />
<br />

When contacted on the telephone, the spokesperson for the state 
police command, Ngozi Braide, lamented the rise in cases of rape, adding
 that parents of victims usually frustrated efforts of the police.<br />
<br />

She said, “We have said it many times in the past that parents of 
victims are of the habit of perverting the course of justice by refusing
 to cooperate with the police in prosecuting rape suspects.<br />
<br />

“Except members of the public rise up against this, rape will continue.”<br />

This is the most annoying and irritation news i’ve ever read online 
in months. What is wrong with some parents? No one cares about the 
trauma the poor girl is going through. What if they had killed her? The 
boys didn’t pity your child when they molested her so why should you

An 18-year-old boy, Olanrewaju Kayode-Aremu, who
was recently arrested by the Lagos State Police Command for stabbing his
46-year-old father, Victor Kayode-Aremu, to death has said he does not regret
his action.</div>

The native of Kwara State added that he decided
to stab his father to death because he could not lay his hands on poison or a
gun which he would have used to kill his father</div>

<i>PUNCH Metro</i> had reported on May 15, 2013
that the suspect stabbed his father to death at their home located at Langbasa
in Ajah.</div>

It had also been reported that the suspect was a
Geology student of the University of Ilorin, Kwara State, but was asked to
leave the school due to his poor grades.</div>

The suspect, who is currently being detained at
the state Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba, said he killed his father
for many reasons.</div>

He said killing his father was a mistake but he
still had no regrets.</div>

Olarenwaju said one of the reasons why he killed
his father was that his father forced him to study Geology even though he did
not like the course.</div>

He said, “My father used to maltreat me and my
mother was aware of this. Sometimes he would not give me food or money. He sent
me to University of Ilorin but I did not get the course I wanted. I was
admitted to study Geology but I wanted to study Biochemistry.</div>

“My father forced me to go to the school and
after I failed, the school asked me to leave. I started working with my father
afterwards and I used to follow him to work. He did not want to send me to
school anymore.”</div>

Narrating what happened on the day he killed his
father, Olanrewaju said he had complained to his parents that he was not
feeling too well but they had ignored him.</div>

He said it was in the usual behaviour of his
father to maltreat him, adding that he decided to vent his anger on his father.</div>

He said, “On that day that I killed my father, I
was ill and I told my parents but they ignored me. I do not really know what
came over me. I took a knife and followed my father upstairs and stabbed him
repeatedly. He ran downstairs and I chased him downstairs and stabbed him once
more.</div>

“My mother saw me when I stabbed him to death but
she did nothing.”</div>

Asked why he decided to kill his father in such a

stabbed him.”</div>

Olanrewaju, who is the first of five children,
said his father married a second wife and this had strained the good relationship
the family once had.</div>

him out of the house because he hated him, stressing that he had reported to
relatives but no one ever listened to him.</div>

believed he would not be arrested due to his young age. He said he thought the
murder would be treated as a family affair.</div>

members, including his mother, had refused to visit him.</div>

He said, “My mother has not come to visit me since
I was arrested. I want her to get me a lawyer. I am still very young. I killed
him because I wanted to be free. I did not know I would be arrested. I thought
nothing would ever happen to me.</div>

“I am not happy in detention and I want the
police to release me; I have suffered enough. I am not happy in the cell.”</div>

woman</span></span>, Mrs. Adenike Owolope, has been arrested and charged before
the Ejigbo Magistrate’s Court, Lagos State, southwest Nigeria, for allegedly
squandering her employer’s money on <a href="http://naijanewsmag.com/blog/2013/05/funny-woman-squanders-employers-n1.9m-on-baba-ijebu" id="_GPLITA_2" title="Click to Continue > by Browse to Save">lotto game</a>, also known as Baba Ijebu.<br />
<br />
She was charged on a one count charge of stealing before the presiding
magistrate, Mrs M. B. Folami.<br />
P.M.NEWS gathered that the Ogun State-born Owolope worked in the sales and <span class="ilad"><span id="IL_AD3">finance department</span></span> of <span class="ilad"><span id="IL_AD4">a cosmetics</span></span> company, Remdocs Nigeria
Limited, at 35 Saidat Kellam Street, Abaranje, Ikotun, Lagos where she had
access to the company’s money and allegedly stole N1, 960, 000 to play lotto.<br />
<br />
It was alleged that the woman stole the money in piecemeal to play the lotto
game with the hope that she would <span class="ilad"><span id="IL_AD1">win a lot
of money</span></span> and then return her employer’s money.<br />
<br />
However, things did not work out as she allegedly planned because she did not
win any prize before the company discovered the <span class="ilad"><a href="http://naijanewsmag.com/blog/2013/05/funny-woman-squanders-employers-n1.9m-on-baba-ijebu" id="_GPLITA_1" title="Click to Continue > by Browse to Save"><span id="IL_AD8">missing money</span></a></span></span> and <span class="ilad"><span id="IL_AD5">arrested her</span></span>.<br />
When she was arraigned, she pleaded not guilty.<br />
<br />
Owolope was granted bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.
She was, however, remanded in Kirikiri Prison, Lagos pending when she will <span class="ilad"><span id="IL_AD7">meet her</span></span> <span class="ilad"><span id="IL_AD6">bail conditions</span></span>. The matter was adjourned till 3
July, 2013.<br />

When P.M.NEWS contacted the suspect, she denied that she stole and used the
money to play <a href="http://naijanewsmag.com/blog/2013/05/funny-woman-squanders-employers-n1.9m-on-baba-ijebu" id="_GPLITA_0" title="Click to Continue > by Browse to Save">lottery</a> as alleged by her employer. She told our reporter
that the whole thing was planned to implicate her.<br />

A mother narrowly escaped “jungle justice” from an angry mob in her 
community after she inflicted vicious wounds with a blade on her 
nine-year-old daughter.<br />
<br />

Angry residents of Ono-Odan Street, Ijanikin, Lagos, were upset with 
Kudirat Abiola, for cutting Precious on her back, left leg and right arm
 with the blade to “teach her a lesson” because she spent N100 given to 
her by her father on junk food. Abiola was said to have gone into hiding
 when she heard about the planned lynching.<br />
<br />

A resident, told reporters on Tuesday that: “We wanted to take her to the police, but Precious pleaded for her.”<br />
<br />

According to reports, Precious had on Monday shown her wounds to a 
friend, Mosaki Rachel, at Marvellous Nursery and Primary School, Sele, 
Ijanikin.<br />
<br />

“Precious told me that her father gave her N100 on Sunday and she 
spent it. But she did not know that her mother had cooked rice at home. 
When Precious’s mother found out, she beat her first, then used blade to
 cut her body. When I saw the wounds, I took her to my uncle, Fasai, who
 has hydrogen peroxide, for treatment,” Mosaki said.<br />
<br />

Precious however, reportedly defended her mother saying she was just training her.<br />

“I like my mummy, and she likes me too. She is just training me. My 
father saw the wounds on Monday and got angry. I told him not to fight 
with my mummy. My father said he would take me to hospital for 
treatment. But since then I have not seen him,” she said.<br />

wounds, I was perplexed.“I was told that she had run away from home since Monday morning 
because she was scared that her mother would do more harm. Precious came
 home at 9pm.”Segun Abogun, who resides in a room next to the Abiolas, said, “We have learnt to stay out of her (Kudirat) way.”</em></i><br />
