Xclusive: Jay-Z Reveals Why He Never Signed Lil Wayne To Roc-A-Fella Records

In an interview with Power 105′s The
 Breakfast Club, rap legend Jay-Z talked about a range of topics, 
including the new album, his Twitter Q&A, his catalog, what inspires
 him, Memphis Bleek, album reviews, the <em>‘Yeezus’</em> album, his 
past beef with Nas, the Samsung deal, Dame Dash, almost signing Lil 
Wayne, Roc Nation Sports, reuniting with Timbaland and much more.<br />

On why he never signed Weezy, Jay-Z explained: “The truth is, this is
 the first time I’ve ever told this truth — I had a meeting with Wayne, I
 had a relationship with Baby, so, when I used to go to New Orleans, I 
would hang out with him, I felt it was only right to call him. I called 
him out of respect like, ‘Yo, I was talking to Wayne. I’m just letting 
you know, boom-boom-boom.’<br />
<br />
So after that, I think we received a letter 
at our office for like torturous interference from a lawyer and I was 
like, ‘Whoa.’ It was like, ‘Whoa,’ and it all went from there. I would 
rather lose that situation and do the right thing than the opposite 
’cause I think I could have signed him and then told them after. But I 
did the right thing and I’m cool with that decision.”

A few days after Lil Wayne refused to properly apologize to the family 
of civil rights icon, Emmett Till (Google who ET was) for 
using his name to describe rough sex in a rap lyric, Mountain Dew has 
dropped him as one of their spokesperson.<br />

The family of Emmett Till asked Lil Wayne for a 
public apology back in February after the remix for Future's <i>Karate Chop</i> leaked online containing the lyric, "I'mma beat the p***y up like 
Emmett Till"<br />
<br />Lil Wayne ignored Till's family until earlier this 
week when they threatened to put pressure on Mountain Dew and Weezy's 
other sponsors to drop him.<br />
<br />
Lil Wayne wrote an open letter to the family but it obviously wasn't 
enough as Mountain Dew's parent company PepsiCo just released a 
statement 
saying; “We do not plan any additional work with Lil Wayne moving 
forward. His offensive reference to  a revered civil rights icon does
 not reflect the values of our brand” and cut all ties with the rapper.<br />
