TRAGEDY: Truck Runs Into Bystanders, Crushes Five To Death In Lagos

<strong>Tragedy struck in Lagos state on Tuesday after a truck ran into bystanders along the Apapa-Oshodi Expressway of the state killing at least five people and injuring over seven others.</strong></div>

The petroleum truck driver who crushed the bystanders who were on the Oshodi Oke bridge to death while injuring over seven injured sustain different degrees of injuries sped off after the accident.</div>

There was a gridlock due to the accident but the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, led by Commander Koleosho were present at the scene to help save lives and ensure there was free flow of traffic.</div>

According to an emergency official said, “<em>Around 7.45, a petrol tanker coming from Anthony inward Mile 2, crushed five bystanders along Oshodi Oke bridge to death.</em></div>

crash early hours of today in Ukraine. In a statement on his club’s 
website, Shakhtar said that the 25-year old Brazilian, was a wonderful 
person. He was a talented footballer, open and friendly guy, the club 
added. It is a terrible bereavement for each of us.</div>

THERE was anxiety in Port Harcourt on Monday as news of the death of 
Mrs. Iwari-Oba, the mother of the wife of President Goodluck Jonathan, 
Patience,  spread in the Rivers State capital. The mother of Mrs. Jonathan was said to have been involved in a ghastly motor accident along Elele Road in Rivers State.

It was gathered that the woman, who is from Okrika Local Government 
Area, was on her way to Bayelsa State when the accident happened. Unconfirmed report indicated that her corpse was taken to Kpaiyama 
Mortuary by a team of policemen and a member representing Ogu Bolo State
 Constituency, Mr. Evans Bipi, who is a relative to the deceased.

Though, the police and the Federal Road Safety Commission in the 
state could not confirm the incident, an aide to Bipi said the First 
Lady’s mother died in a road accident, which occurred at about 4pm. Bipi’s aide, Mr. Fred Itobo, told <i>The PUNCH</i> that the President’s wife’s mother was involved in the accident while she was on her way to Bayelsa State.

“Yes! She was involved in an accident and she died. Her body has been
 taken to a mortuary. Bipi was among those who took her body to the 
mortuary,” Itobo said.<br />

When contacted, the State Director of FRSC, Dr. Kayode Olagunju, 
declined comment on the matter, saying, “I cannot say anything on this 
matter now until I get full details.” Though effort to get reactions from the State Police Public Relations
 Officer, Mrs. Angela Agabe, proved futile, she had already told a 
journalist on the telephone that she had not been briefed on such crash.

On Tuesday May 7th, Nassarawa State Commissioner of Police sent police 
officers, SSS and Civil Defense personnel to arrest the cult leader of a
 notorious militia group called 'Ombatse' (a cult group of the Eggon 
people of Nasarawa State) at Assakyo Village in Lafia, Nassarawa state. 
(Ombatse in Eggon language means “time has come”).</div>

The state government wanted to arrest the chief priest because the group
 had been causing security concerns in the state. Unfortunately for the 
police officers sent to pick the man up, as they approached the Ombatse

 them attacked and killed plenty of them. Many of the police officers 
were burnt beyond recognition.</div>

Also, out of the 11 police patrol vans used to convey 
the mobile policemen for the operation, eight were burnt beyond 
recognition by the militia group.<br />

The Nassarawa Commissioner of Police explains why they wanted to arrest the Ombatse cult leader:<br />

 was going about in mosques and churches forcing all people of Eggon

It was learnt that Anuoluwapo knew that Akinyemi’s mother and siblings usually left the house before 8am each working day,.</div>

 Ogijo Police Division, said, “I don’t know what came over me, I just 
wanted us to reconcile and continue our relationship.</div>

“Each time we break up, I am always severely affected; I converted from Christianity to Islam because I wanted to marry her.</div>

“I even moved from my one-room apartment

My visit was meant to be for a discussion but it degenerated into a 
quarrel.</div>

“Akinyemi was not even aware that I had a knife on me when I forcefully had sex with her.”</div>

The police said Anuoluwapo used the knife to cut Akinyemi’s throat and later had sex with her while she bled.</div>

But the estranged lover claimed that she was still alive when he had sex with her on the couch in the sitting room.</div>

It was gathered that Akinyemi’s corpse was discovered at about 4pm by her mother and siblings when they returned home.</div>

Although neighbours suspected Anuoluwapo, none of them initially came forward with information.</div>

A police source said, “It was later, 
someone gave an anonymous tip to the police that Akinyemi had broken up

“He said each time; Anuoluwapo would get people from her community or the mosque where she worshipped to plead with her.”</div>

worked. He had recently relocated from his home at Segun Kehinde Street,
 Ogijo to the PZ estate. In a bid to locate Anuoluwapo, police 
detectives were said to have picked residents who lived around 
Akinyemi’s home for questioning. Eventually one of the residents was 
said to have revealed Anuoluwapo’s place of work.</div>

“A team of police detectives went to the
 company to arrest Anuoluwapo, but were initially refused entry. 
Eventually the Divisional Police Officer, SP. Toyin Afolaogun, had to

arrested,” the source said.</div>

A frightened Anuoluwapo was said to have
 immediately confessed his guilt upon questioning and led police 
detectives to his house where he had hidden the murder weapon.</div>

The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Muyiwa Adejobi, confirmed the incident.</div>

He said, “The shirt which Anuoluwapo had

 corner with blood stains on it. The knife was found in his home.</div>

About 20 prospective couples found to be HIV positive during the 
mandatory medical check-ups ahead of 1,000 widows and divorcees third 
batch mass wedding coming up Saturday, has been disqualified by the Kano
