penned hits for many of the greatest musicians of the 20th Century, has died at
the age of 70. The cause of his death was not announced, but Womack had
suffered from cancer and Alzheimer's disease and also battled with <span class="IL_AD" id="IL_AD3">drug
addiction</span>.</div>

Rev. Teddy Parker a Macon at Georgia killed himself a few days 
after telling his congregation at his church that God was not hearing 
him and no longer felt a connection to God.<br />

<i>"I try to pray but I don’t feel like God is hearing me,” Parker said to 
his congregation “I try to serve but I don’t feel like God is using me. 
And 
there are times in your life when God purposely withdraws from you, he

The Reverend Parker, a father of two, shot himself in the head with his own pistol 
 following Sunday service at
 Bible Mount Zion Baptist Church while his family and congregation were 
still at his church waiting for him for the next service.

The remains of Ifechukwudi Nwanikpor, the 24 year old who was one 
of two young men brutally murdered by villagers from the Tozukame community area 
in Ajara, Badagry on Sunday July 21, was laid 
to rest at the Badagry Cemetery in Lagos yesterday. <br />

Policemen watched as both men – Nwanikpor and Kazeem Onayemi (26) 
were beaten and killed by the community members after being labelled 
armed robbers.<br />

Mourners and family members came out in their numbers at the Badagry cemetery but couldn’t hold back their tears at the burial.<br />

in Mafoluku, Lagos. A trailer carrying heavy duty rods lost control and 
fell on a car with three people inside. </div>

The three occupants of the car, two men and a woman, were staff of 
Zenith Pension, Victoria Island. The two men, Ovie and Sir Kay, lost 
their lives, while the lady survived with a deep cut on her head.</div>

Rescuers managed to bring the lady out of the car that night after they 
heard her shouting she was still alive, but the two dead men were left 
in the car wreckage until the following morning when their colleagues

The death toll of policemen killed by members of the Ombatse cult in 
Nasarawa State has climbed to 72 following the discovery of the bodies 
of 25 policemen that had been hitherto declared missing in a mass grave 
in an unnamed village in the state. Security authorities had earlier 
confirmed 57 operatives, comprising 47 policemen and 10 agents of the 
State Security Service (SSS), killed in the attack that took place on 
May 7 when they were on a rescue mission to a village in Nasarawa State.
 The police, which launched a manhunt for the killers, had declared the 
25 policemen missing because their bodies could not be found to confirm 
if they were dead or alive and nobody knew their whereabouts. The 
manhunt for the killers however yielded fruit yesterday as seven of the 
suspected Ombatse cultists were said to have been arrested in Borno 
State while trying to flee to Niger Republic.<br />While the police are 
still searching for the killers, the Chairman of the Northern State 
Governors’ Forum (NSGF) and Niger State Governor, Dr. Babangida Aliyu, 
yesterday called on the federal government to fish out the killers and 
bring them to justice.<br />A top police source confided in THISDAY 
yesterday that contrary to the hope among the police authorities that 
the 25 policemen might still be alive, their bodies were recently found 
in a mass grave in a village. But he declined to name the village and 
when the bodies were discovered. “By the time we found the missing 
policemen, their bodies were already decomposing in a mass grave in the 
village. It was a gory sight,” he said.<br />He promised that the police 
would spare no efforts and resources in ensuring that those behind the 
killings are found and prosecuted. Efforts to get more details from 
police spokesperson, Frank Mba, a Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP), 
proved abortive, as he did not pick or return his calls.<br />It was also 
learnt yesterday that seven of the suspected killers of the security 
agents have been arrested in Borno State while trying to flee to Niger 
Republic. The arrest has however not eased tension in the state as many 
people feared that the case will not be closed until the arrest of the 
chief priest of the Ombatse shrine whose concoction people believed 
helped the cultists to become invulnerable to injuries from weapons. 
THISDAY learnt that the fear stems from the fact that the power and 
influence of the chief priest is known to the people, especially 
politicians who had also benefited from his mystical powers in 2011 
during the general election. The cult, according to a source, is said to
 be bitter that those who climbed to positions of power through its 
influence turned round to send enforcement operatives to destroy it. The
 seven suspected Eggon militants believed to have been apprehended at 
the weekend by the Joint Task Force (JTF) operatives in Borno State may 
have been handed over to the Nasarawa Police Command. Initial 
investigations have also shown that some top politicians in the state 
had patronised the shrine during the campaign for the last general 
election and helped in the funding and provision of logistics, 
especially sophisticated weapons used by the cultists.<br />Inspector 
General of Police (IG), Mohammed Abubakar, while visiting the troubled 
area at the weekend, had called on elders and eminent citizens of 
Nasarawa State to collaborate with the police to fish out the killers. 
The IG, who was in the state along with the Minister of Police Affairs, 
Navy Captain Caleb Olubolade (rtd), described the killing of the 
security agents as “callous”. He said some officers were still being 
held hostage by the militants, adding that efforts were being made to 
free them. “We are making every peaceful effort to ensure that some of 
our men still being held hostage are released unhurt,” Abubakar said. On
 his part, Olubolade said such a “barbaric act” of snuffing out the life
 of security personnel,<br />who are meant to safeguard lives, was unacceptable in a decent society.<br />“Somebody,
 somewhere is causing havoc for whatever reason and the society must not
 allow that to continue,” he added. The Niger State governor also  
Monday made a case for the apprehension and prosecution of those behind 
the killing of the security agents in Nasarawa State.<br />Aliyu, who 
spoke in Abuja during a peace forum and launch of polio eradication 
almanac, which was organised by the Northern State Governors’ Wives’ 
Forum (NGWF), also called for equal compensation to families of security
 agents killed in Nasarawa State. Over N70 million was raised to 
encourage the peace mission and polio eradication in the region. The 
governor said it was deplorable that security agents who are symbols of 
the nation’s authority could be killed by insurgents. “I heard that a 
policeman’s life is worth N500,000 and that it took the intervention of 
the Force Headquarters to make it N1 million, while that of the SSS is 
N10 million and a house. We should begin to treat our security agents 
equally,” he said. Chairperson of NGWF and wife of Benue State governor,
 Mrs. Yemisi Suswam, said the peace forum would allow for open and fair 
interaction and exchange of ideas on the peaceful co-existence of the 
nation.<br />Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party Governors’ Forum 
(PDP-GF) and Akwa Ibom State Governor, Chief Godswill Akpabio, who also 
spoke on the occasion, blamed ethnic bigotry and religious intolerance 
for Nigeria’s problems and urged women to instil strong moral values in 
their wards.<br />

As early as 7.30 am, students had stormed the gates of the institution 
which they succeeded in locking. Only to reportedly have two students of
 the university shot dead with several others wounded following an 
ongoing protest about against some of the “anti-students policy” of the 
school’s management. <br />

According to <b>StreetJournal,</b>
 some of the students revealed that one of the new policies stipulates 
that any student who does not pay school fees on time would not be 
allowed into the exam hall, which could mean an extra year for some. <a href="http://www.blogger.com/blogger.g?blogID=5438533803477296299" name="more"></a><br />

Policemen were however on the scene not long after and arrests were 
reportedly made. Students claimed policemen opened fire on them and 
in minutes, the story was trending on Twitter, with the pictures above.<br />

However, the police have denied that they shot students dead.<br />
Mr Muyiwa Adejobi, the spokesman of the Ogun State Command of the Nigeria Police Force. Adejobi said:<br />

They went violent this morning and some of our men were deployed to 
disperse them. The operation was led by a Deputy Commissioner and no 
live bullet was used so the issue of killing does not arise at all.” <br />
They are just using the issue of killing to seek public sympathy. We 
don’t kill. That was the same thing they said when there was a crisis in
 Tai Solarin University of Education in Omu Ijebu, they said policemen 
killed four students. No one saw the bodies. That is what they always 
say to win public sympathy”.<br /><br />When he was told by Street Journal’s
 reporter that pictures of one of those feared dead in the protest were 
already on the internet, Adejobi who disclosed that he had seen the 
picture said “we know the way students try to get sympathy. Let them 
produce the corpse in the picture. They should bring the corpse to the 
police.”

She later gained admission into a university. In April this year, she 
came to me and asked if I remembered Ayobami, who was popularly called 
Ewizzy. She said they chatted on facebook and that he told her that he 
was also living at Ologuneru, and had asked her to meet him at a 
junction so that she could know his place.<br />
I told her that I could not recollect the name so she went alone. <br />
<br />
The next time she wanted to go there, she asked me to follow her. I 
initially refused, but she persuaded me. We got there and saw him. His 
girlfriend was also there, lying on a couch. We relived our secondary 
school days and he later requested for my number since we were living in
 the same area. I gave him.<br />
<br />
We left and not too long after, he called me, saying that he had been 
calling Funmbi’s number but it was switched off. He said he wanted to 
know if I had got home. Funmbi was beside me then so she also answered 
because her phone battery had gone flat by then.<br />
Since then, I did not hear from him, though there was a day I missed his
 call, but I could not call him back as I had no credit on my phone.<br />
On my birthday on May 5, I went to help a lady in our neighbourhood 
after coming back from church. When I checked my phone later, I saw 
Ayobami’s call among others that I had missed. <br />
I called him back and while chatting, I told him that day was my 
birthday. He congratulated me and said it was worth celebrating. I told 
him I was only marking it.<br />
<br />
He asked where I was and I said Ologuneru, he then asked me to join him 
at Ologuneru junction. I went there at about 7p.m. and I saw him come 
out of a beer parlour. I didn’t know that he was already drunk. <br />
On getting to his apartment, he took me through the back door. When I 
asked why, he said the lock on the front door was bad so he locked it 
with a padlock.<br />
I told him I preferred to sit outside because it was pitch dark inside. 
He opened the front door and I went in. We put on torchlights.<br />
I made a call to a friend while he was busy on his laptop. Later, he made a call to his mother. <br />
We started discussing about school days again and he then went to the 
kitchen and offered me water. I told him I was o.k. and he went into the
 kitchen again.<br />
<strong></strong><br />
<strong>It was at that point that Onyinyechi said the story changed. She narrated further:</strong> <br />
<br />
“He came back and locked the front door with a padlock. I asked him why 
he did that but he just sat beside me and said he wanted to date me. I 
even thought he was joking, and I replied that ‘is that what we came 
here to do?’ but he told me he was very serious. <br />
As he moved closer, I perceived a strong smell of alcohol, then I knew he was drunk.<br />
“I asked again: ‘AY, are you drunk?’ he replied that he was not drunk, 
saying he meant what he said. I told him I could not date him and he 
replied that if I could not date him, then he must have sex with me 
before I leave. <br />
I told him to open the door for me to leave but he said I was not going anywhere. I started pleading but he did not yield.<br />
“The next thing he did was to pull off his trousers and I knew I was in 
trouble because I could see he was aroused. He told me I could see that 
he was in mood for sex and that he must have his way. <br />
<br />
I opened the sliding window screaming ‘somebody, please help me!, 
Somebody, please, save me!’. He came there, slapped me, drew me back and
 locked the window. <br />
I started running round the sitting room and he was pursuing me.<br />
“He went to the kitchen and brought a knife, warning me not to waste his time. <br />
He threatened to do something nasty to me if I did not yield to him after counting from one to 10. <br />
<br />
He had said before that he loved his mother so I begged him in the name of his mother, he did not yield ground. <br />
I begged him in the name of God but he said he left God a long time ago 
and that he was serving Ogun. He showed me the picture of a bird hanged 
on the wall and said that was the symbol of his god. <br />
I also told him I was having my menses but he said I should allow him to
 do what he wanted to do, saying that if his friends should meet me in 
the house, they would take their turns with me.<br />
He lit a cigarette and started smoking. He started his countdown but I 
knelt and was pleading. As he got to eight, I screamed the more but he 
rushed at me and started struggling with me to remove the bum shorts I 
was wearing underneath my long dress. <br />
<br />
In the process, he dropped the knife, and at that moment of intense 
fear, I picked the knife and waved it at him in the darkness. The next 
thing I heard was Yee! O ti gun mi (Oh! You have stabbed me). <br />
<br />
I stood up, shivering. I searched for my phone because the entire place was in topsy-turvy. <br />
<br />
Throughout the struggling, no one responded among his neighbours, though
 he had earlier said that no one would respond to me as they regard the 
occupants of his flat as ‘Dons’ who are dreaded.<br />
“I reported at home and we went to the police station to report. By the 
time we got back to the house, he was dead. It was in the morning that 
it was seen clearly that the knife pierced his heart.”<br />
<br />
Sunday Tribune gathered that the deceased’s mother had been so 
distraught about his death that she had been calling for justice to be 
done to her son’s killer. <br />
She was said to be separated from the boy’s father and had remarried and
 given birth to other children while Ayobami was the only child she had 
for the father. <br />
<br />
Police investigations also revealed that the man Ayobami was living with in the flat was not related to him.<br />
<br />
Reacting to the story, the Assistant Commissioner of police in charge of
 the Criminal Investigation Department, Iyaganku, ACP Dasuki Galadanchi 
said the matter was still being investigated.<br />

There is no witness yet to support the suspect's story. On the side too,
 dead bodies cannot talk. There was no witness on the side to 
corroborate whether there was an attempted rape or not. </blockquote>

deeper into investigations and get to the root of the matter. If she’s

Thirty-nine people died and 30 were injured in fierce fighting between 
Christian and Muslim mobs in Taraba state on Friday, prompting a 
round-the-clock curfew, police said.<br /><br />Scores of houses were set 
ablaze and destroyed during the clashes in the town of Wukari which come
 amid a surge in religious violence in the west African nation.<br /><br />“We
 have so far compiled a death toll of 39 people while 30 others were 
seriously injured,” state police spokesman Joseph Kwaji told AFP on 
Saturday.<br />
<a href="http://www.blogger.com/blogger.g?blogID=5438533803477296299" name="more"></a><br /><br />Local residents told AFP that the death toll could rise.<br /><br />“Thirty-two
 houses have also been destroyed in the violence,” Kwaji said of the 
unrest which has prompted authorities to impose an indefinite all-round 
curfew in the predominantly Christian city.<br /><br />He added that 40 suspects were arrested in the aftermath of the violence.<br /><br />State information commissioner Emmanuel Bello said that extra troops were deployed to the city on Saturday to bolster security.<br /><br />“We
 have deployed more troops today to Wukari to ensure that the situation,
 which has been brought under control, is strengthened,” he told AFP.<br /><br />The
 police spokesman Kwaji said Friday’s violence erupted when the funeral 
procession of a traditional chief from the predominantly Christian Jukun
 ethnic group marched through a Muslim neighbourhood chanting slogans, 
which Muslims viewed as an act of provocation.<br /><br />“The state 
governor has imposed a 24-hour curfew on Wukari which is aimed at 
restoring normalcy in the town” after the fighting, said Kefas Sule, 
spokesman for the state governor.<br /><br />Tensions have been on the rise 
in Wukari since February, when a dispute over the use of a football 
pitch between Muslim and Christian soccer teams set off sectarian riots 
that claimed several lives.<br /><br />Friday’s violence came a day after the state government inaugurated a committee to investigate the February violence.<br /><br />It
 also follows a surge in violence and kidnappings in the restive north 
of Nigeria, the epicentre of an insurgency by Boko Haram Islamists, in 
recent months.<br /><br />In late April fighting between soldiers and 
Islamic fighters in the remote northeastern town of Baga left 187 dead, 
according to the Red Cross, in the deadliest episode since the 
insurgency began in 2009.<br /><br />An area senator put the death toll from
 the attack at 228, but details remain murky about the clashes which 
also left nearly half the town destroyed after massive fires.<br /><br />Human
 Rights Watch on Wednesday released satellite images showing massive 
destruction in Baga, voicing concern that the military has “tried to 
cover up” abuses that should be investigated by the International 
Criminal Court.<br /><br />The military has pushed back aggressively against
 these reports and fiercely denied claims that soldiers fired on 
civilians or deliberately torched scores of homes.<br /><br />The global 
rights watchdog said the insurgency in north and central Nigeria by Boko
 Haram has claimed 3,600 lives since 2009, including killings by the 
security forces.<br /><br />Nigeria’s former oil minister, Shettima Ali 
Monguno, 87, was kidnapped Friday by gunmen who stormed his vehicle 
outside a mosque in the restive city of Maiduguri, a stronghold of Boko

According to The Punch newspaper, Oyeka, on April 19, 2013, took a 
kitchen knife and stabbed himself repeatedly until his intestines were 
disembowelled. <br />

A neighbour who spoke to the newspaper said that the deceased who 
completed his National Youth Service Corps programme last February, has 
been depressed for a while, and had complained that he was not happy

positive. This report is unconfirmed as efforts to reach very close 
persons to Cossy proved abortive. A purported close friend of Cossy 
disclosed that she is currently undergoing antiretroviral medication.<br />
