A househelp,
simply identified as David, on Friday allegedly beheaded his boss, a 65-year-
old retired judge, Mrs Olufunmilayo Timeyin, at the Laderin Housing Estate,
along Kobape Road, Abeokuta.<o:p></o:p></div>

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the incident
happened barely 48 hours after an insane police corporal killed seven people
and subsequently committed suicide in the same Abeokuta.<o:p></o:p></div>

A
witness told journalists at the scene of the incident that it happened at about
4:00. p.m. in the deceased’s house.</div>

that the late Timeyin, who retired as a senior magistrate in the Ogun state
judiciary, employed the househelp about two months ago.<o:p></o:p></div>

David (the suspect) who hails from Benue, was said to have
been sacked and arrested by the police after he allegedly stole jewellery,
Mobile Phones and some electronic gadgets, from his boss.<o:p></o:p></div>

learnt that David, however, returned to the house shortly after regaining
freedom from police custody, after scaling the fence on Friday afternoon.<o:p></o:p></div>

He was alleged to have deactivated The Security Alarm Systemin
the house and lurked in one corner, while an unsuspecting Timeyin returned from

The witness said Timeyin packed her Blue Toyota Camry<span class="apple-converted-space"> </span>car– marked Lagos KIA 141 BU– outside
the house, apparently planning to go out again.</div>

The source said that the househelp attacked
Timeyin with a matchete immediately she opened her gate.</div>

Timeyin’s son, identified as Olumide, who arrived
the house with his mother, raised an alarm that a thief was inside his mother’s
house.</div>

But, by the time neighbours came round, the
retired magistrate had been beheaded and his assailant and househelp had
escaped into the bush.</div>

The suspect was, however, arrested by residents of
the area and handed over to the police.</div>

Justice Olatokunbo Olopade, and the Commissioner for Local Government and
Chieftain Affairs, Chief Muyiwa Oladipo, were part of important dignitaries who
had visited the home of the deceased as at 8:00 p.m. on Friday.</div>

Relation Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, could not be reached for comments, policemen
from Kemta division of Abeokuta were at the scene as the body was being moved

The Nigeria Police has expressed disgust over a photograph showing apparently a senior officer in a compromising position in what looks like him grabbing a hand full of a lady’s breast.

The picture went viral as soon as it was released online but the Police HQ not knowing the source immediately branded the photo as a fake, saying it was deliberately fabricated using the Adobe Photoshop software.
According to Nigerian Eye reports, the police confirmed that the policeman seen in the type of uniform worn by officers of the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police was questioned and released based on the fact that he was innocent.

It was also reported that the affected officer (name withheld by the police) released a comment on his Facebook page saying, “I don’t know this lady. I never took the picture with her.”

The Police was finally quoted as saying:
“An image showing one of our officers in a compromising position with a lady has gone viral. Please check the hands in the so-called picture that is in circulation and you will agree that they were photo-shopped.

to reports, a female police officer was yesterday attacked and almost stri*ped
unclad by a dreaded wealthy man.</span></b><br />

The police officer, Inspector Tochukwu Offoegbu was allegedly on duty when
the the ‘big man,’ who owns a park in Onitsha, approached her, allegedly
telling her that he would facilitate her removal from Onitsha as he did to
one  Archibong.<br />
<br />
She then demanded to know what she did that would warrant her removal, so he
reportedly slapped her for questioning him. Eyewitness also revealed that his
boys allegedly tore the female officer’s uniform, leaving her almost unclad.<br />
<br />
‘’She ran for her life into the Police post to avoid the peering eyes of the
public before the Area Commander Benjamin Nwordu asked all of them to come to
the area police station, Onitsha.<br />
<br />
‘’That man cannot be arrested because last time he slapped the Commissioner of
police because of park matters and so the governor closed the park and now, it
is an Inspector. I fear,” the eyewitness narrated.<br />

A seven-man robbery gang led by a woman, Chioma Ezekwesiri a Law 
graduate from the University of Lagos, has been arrested along with six 
other members of her gang by the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, in 
Lagos while attempting to rob Bolatito Hotel, Kola Bus Stop, Ijaiye, 
Lagos.<br />
<br />
The alleged mastermind and ringleader, Chioma confessed she arranged 
for the guns with Raymond Chukwuka, a.k.a. Stubborn. They were to use 
for the operation, which she claimed was a land matter, whereas the 
police said that their mission was allegedly to rob a male customer of 
the hotel, who sells fertilizer, of about N8 million.<br />
<br />
According to P.M News reports, other suspected members of the gang 
are: Amadi Igwe, 41, Raymond Chukwuka, 24, Ignatius Okeredi, 27, Michael
 Madu, 52, and Okechukwu Jerome, 28, and a yet-to-be identified member 
who is now on the run.<br />
<br />
The alleged robbery operation, according to the police, was foiled by
 some staff of the hotel, who promptly made a distress call to SARS 
operatives.<br />
The law enforcement agents were said to have surrounded the hotel, 
and later searched all its occupants. It was in the process that two 
locally made guns and 12 live ammunition were recovered from the robbery
 suspects.

Two women, 60-year-old Maryam Ashiru and her daughter, Asiya Ashiru 
of Kila Village in Gwaram local government area of Jigawa State were on 
Tuesday lynched by an angry mob in their community over allegations of 
witchcraft.<br />
<br />
The two women were attacked by the mob at around 9pm, following the 
death of a middle-aged person Abubakar Sule, suspected to be killed 
through witchcraft by one of the women.<br />
<br />
According to the son of Maryam Ashiru, Sani Ashiru, who is also a 
student of the Sa’adatu Rimi College Kano, said that the people of the 
village stormed the house and killed his aged mother and his sister, 
following the death of their neighbour.<br />
<br />
He said, “About three years ago, an elder brother to the late Sule 
fell sick and died, but his family accused our family of killing him. 
The matter was settled at a Shari’a court after we swore by the Holy 
Qur’an that we are not witches or wizards and were, also, not 
responsible for his death.<br />
<br />
“Few weeks ago, when Sule fell sick, his family also accused us of 
being responsible and threatened to kill all of our family members if he
 died. Unfortunately and eventually, he died.<br />
<br />
“Shortly after, his family along with many people in the village 
attacked our house. Before they reached the house, virtually all our 
family members ran away, leaving only my helpless mother and sister in 
the house.<br />
<br />
“The attackers, without any hesitation, slaughtered my mother and 
sister, mutilated their bodies and burnt our house with all our 
belongings inside,” Ashiru narrated.<br />
<br />
“I can swear by the Qur’an that we are not witches or wizards; but 
simply because we a poor family, some people in the village hate us and 
always make these allegations against us,” Ashiru pointed out.<br />
<br />
He also revealed that he did not know the whereabouts of any of his 
other escaped family members and confirmed that “no one among those 
inhuman people has been arrested by the police, and I cannot get a 
lawyer to follow me, because I have no money”.<br />
<br />
He, however, called on the Jigawa State government, human right 
groups and legal aid groups to come to his family’s aid, and insisted on
 fishing out “those heartless people”.<br />
<br />
When the spokesperson of the state police command, SP Abdul Jinjiri, 
was contacted, he confirmed the incident and added that two persons, 
Sani Malam Yalwa and Rilwan Suleiman, were arrested in connection with 
the incident.

<strong>About 19 Traffic Marshals working for the Gombe State 
Government on Tuesday sustained various degrees of injuries in clashes

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Gombe State Police 
Command, Fwaje Atajiri, said that two policemen from the Gombe Police 
Division were sent to invite some persons suspected of committing 
assault, when the policemen tried to invite one of the suspects, he 
refused and an argument ensued between the suspect and the policemen and
 it was later discovered that the suspect was a marshal but that he was 
not in uniform.</div>

Mr. Atajiri said that the clash could not have occurred if the police had known that the suspect was a marshal.</div>

A commercial bus driver and his conductor this morning stripped naked at

The robber was said to be one of the members of the gang that killed 
four members of vigilance group  during  operation in Ifo community, 
last weekend.<br />
The state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, 
Muyiwa Adejobi,  who disclosed this also said three suspected  robbers 
were killed during a gun battle around Oko-Bale, Ilogbo also in the 
town.<br />
It was gathered that the robber had sought  refuge in the 
church after he allegedly escaped  from Police arrest with  bullet 
wounds before he met his waterloo.<br />
About 20 armed robbers had  on 
Saturday  killed five members of the vigilante service during  a robbery
 operation in Ifo area before the police chased them away.<br />
While 
explaining how the suspected robber was arrested, the PPRO  said that 
his men  acted on a tip-off  that led to   the arrest of the suspect 
while taking  treatments of  his injured right leg in a church in Ota 
area of the state.<br />

While
 commenting on the three robbers killed, the PPRO said  that the robbers
 had earlier robbed and attacked officials of vigilante services in the

Protest by students of the University of Benin over alleged shooting 
to death of  late Momodu Ibrahim, a 22-year-old 500 level student of the
 Faculty of Laboratory Science yesterday disrupted vehicular movement in
 Benin city yesterday, as the students dressed in black attire marched 
through some major streets, calling for the arrest and prosecution of 
the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Ogida Police Station, Mrs. 
Carol Afegbai, over her alleged complicity in the murder of Momodu.<br />

Late Momodu, said to be the only male child of his parents was 
allegedly shot close to his family house at 1, Igbobaewaye Street, off 
Siluko road by Textile Mill junction.<br />

An elder sister of the deceased, Ebohon Rebecca Egbe, who spoke to 
newsmen gave an account of how the life of his brother was cut short by 
the bullet allegedly fired by the DPO, while she called for justice to 
be done in the case.<br />

“I was in my office in Port Harcourt when I received a call from a 
cousin of mine in Benin who is a policeman, saying that he wants to tell
 me that we lost Ibrahim my younger brother.<br />

Station and was buried the next day without the knowledge of the family.<br />

According to her, his brother’s cell-phone which was with the Police 
rang all through as “we were trying to locate his whereabouts until the 
Police finally picked the call and asked my mother to come to the police
 station.<br />
<br />

“When the DPO was confronted over why her men shot my brother, she 
explained that they did not know his identity because her men asked him 
to stop and he refused. The DPO alleged that he was carrying a gun and 
wanted to shoot her men on patrol before they shot at him in self 
defence.”<br />
<br />

The family, according to the sister of the slain student, was 
informed that the body of late Momodu had been buried at a public 
cemetery in Egor Local Government Area of the state.

A former army general and major player during Nigeria’s decades of military rule, Major General <strong>Mamman Kontagora</strong>, is dead.<br />
<br />

Mr. Kontagora, born on April 20, 1944, died on Wednesday night according to a statement by the Governors Forum.<br />
<br />

The deceased is from Kontagora in <a href="http://www.nigerstate.gov.ng/" target="_blank">Niger State </a>and
 was a former military administrator of the Federal Capital Territory, 
Abuja, during the regime of General Abdulsalami Abubakar.<br />

The retired soldier cum politician, 69, was also a former works

man, Mr Chimezie Osigweh on whose property a 10-year old embalmed corpse

Mr Osigweh, a retired principal and a strong devotee of the Guru 
Maharaji Sect who was alleged to have mysteriously killed his mother 10 
years ago and since 2003, kept the embalmed corpse of his mother in a

depicting ritual practice.<br />

While parading the suspect at his temple in a village called Ezuru 
Umuagwu in Oguta Local Government area of Imo state, the Imo state 
commissioner of Police Mohammed Katsina said preliminary investigations 
revealed that instead of burying the mother the normal way, Mr Osigweh 
kept the embalmed body of Mrs Lucy Osigweh in his temple for ritual 
purposes where he and other members of his sect used to hold secret 
nocturnal meetings to enhance their occultic powers.<br />
<br />

Mr Chimezie Osigweh was identified as a retired principal of 
Community secondary school, Awa, in Oguta Local government area of Imo 
state and a strong member of the Guru Maharaji sect.<br />
<br />

He was arrested alongside 2 other worshipers at his temple where he kept the embalmed corpse of his late Mother.<br />
<br />

Osigweh who confessed to be a Guru Maharaji member for 24years denied
 that he intentionally killed his mother. He however refused to disclose
 why he kept the mother’s embalmed corpse in the cupboard for 10 years 
saying it is not what he can openly disclose.<br />
<br />

Meanwhile, villagers and family members have said that they suspect 
Osigweh of diabolical acts, stating that he has kept noticeable distance
 from everyone.<br />
<br />

They disclosed that he was never married. His relatives who were at 
the scene of crime said when asked, he would tell lies that the mother 
traveled to the United states to see his siblings or sometimes she is 
receiving treatment in the hospital.<br />
<br />

The Imo state Police commissioner Mohammed Katsina while speaking to 
journalists said the Command has started making further investigations 
into the case and will ensure that they unravel every mystery behind it 
to the public as soon as they get more information.<br />
<br />

In the meantime, the suspect will remain in the police custody and if found guilty, will be charged for first class murder.

<b>Delta State police command has nabbed a hunter identified as 
Omenogor (Surname withheld) in Ishiagu, Ndokwa West local government 
area of the state, for allegedly killing his wife and two children over 
allegation of witchcraft.</b><br />

It was gathered that the man became frustrated over his inability to 
make love to his wife, a situation he blamed on his wife’s alleged 
witchcraft.<br />
<br />

The public relations officer, Delta State police command, ASP Lucky 
Uyebeme, confirmed that the hunter is at present, helping the police at 
the state CID for their investigation.<br />
<br />

He further disclosed that some of his family members who allegedly aided him have also been arrested.<br />
  <br />
According to the PPRO, the incident happened on Thursday evening when
 a quarrel between Omenogor and his wife degenerated into a free-for-all
 fight, leading to the death of his wife and two children.<br />
<br />
Further inquiry showed that the couple had been locked in accusation 
and counter accusation of witchcraft in the last three years, which 
family sources said culminated into the alleged inability of the hunter 
to perform his s*xual and civil responsibilities in recent times.<br />
<br />
There is also the allegation that the hunter’s late wife had confessed 
to being a “General Manager who decides’’ the fate of her husband’s 
relatives.<br />
<br />
While the trouble lasted, the woman was also quoted as claiming that 
she had “reduced her husband to an inconsequential personality.”<br />
<br />

Upon interrogation by the police, the hunter confessed that he had 
threatened to commit suicide on two occasions, adding that his decision 
to kill his wife and two children was informed by his inability to make 
love to his wife and even outside his matrimonial home.<br />

The Lagos State Police Command has started investigation into the murder of a banker, Adindu Ohamara, who was stabbed to death by his suspected homosexual lover in Akoka, Bariga Local Council Development Area  of Lagos State.<br /><br />It was gathered that Ohamara lived in a three-bedroom flat with his elder sister, Flora and one Collins, an undergraduate of the University of Lagos.<br /><br />According to residents, the banker  was stabbed repeatedly at his residence located at 26 Obayan Street.<br /><br />PUNCH Metro learnt that Ohamara, who was believed to be a homosexual, was fond of bringing different men, who were also believed to be into same sex relationship, to his home.<br /><br />It was learnt that trouble started  when he (Ohamara) decided to get married due to pressure from his family.<br /><br />A resident, who craved anonymity, said after the banker  had his wedding introduction, a man, believed to be  also  a gay came to fight him.<br /><br />He said, “A few weeks ago, Ohamara did his wedding introduction and shortly after that, one man came to the compound to fight him.There was a lot of noise over the issue and even neighbours had to come to settle the matter.<br /><br />“The unidentified man complained that he had been jilted and threatened to deal with Ohamara before he left in anger.”<br /><br />Our correspondent learnt that on April 9, 2013,  the banker returned home with a  man, who   allegedly stabbed  him at midnight  and left.<br /><br />According to police sources, hours before the incident, Collins went to Oharama’s room where he met the stranger sitting on Oharama’s bed, discussing with him.<br /><br />A domestic worker in  the house, who craved anonymity, said he saw the suspect fleeing with a laptop at midnight.<br /><br />He said, “It was a Friday evening. Ohamara came home with the man and they went inside. I went to sleep but at midnight, I saw the man carrying a laptop and then he opened the gate and left. He did not run so I was not suspicious.<br /><br />“Around 4am, Collins and Flora started shouting for help. A neighbour came to help them and they took him  into his Toyota Camry   and drove to a hospital.”<br /><br />It was learnt that Ohamara was taken to Jonken Hospital from where he was referred to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital Idi Araba where he was confirmed dead.<br /><br />The matter, it was learnt, was reported at the  Sabo Police Division but was later referred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba.<br /><br />Our correspondent, who visited the house on Monday, learnt that the police later arrested all the adult occupants of the building, including the security guard identified only as Kazeem.<br /><br />The policemen allegedly demanded N350,000 from each of the detained persons before they could be  released.<br /><br />The landlord of the property, Yemi Oketola, said the deceased had issued him two post-dated cheques as payment for his rent.<br /><br />Oketola  on  hearing of the arrest  of his other tenants,  visited the SCID and appealed to the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Damilola Adegbuyi, for their   release.<br /><br />He said, “I do not live in the house but immediately I got wind of the incident, I went to the SCID and I met with the DCP in charge. I complained that a neighbour, who took Ohamara to the hospital  ,was  arrested. The DCP promised that my tenants would be released.<br /><br />“When I went to see the Investigating Police Officer, he informed me that the cost of bailing each person was N350, 000. I called the DCP and he was very angry when he heard about the demand. He said he would make sure that the tenants were released.”<br /><br />When contacted on the telephone, the spokesperson for the state police command, Ngozi Braide, confirmed the murder.<br /><br />Braide however said she could not confirm if the deceased was a homosexual or not.<br /><br />She said, “According to information I got at the SCID Homicide unit, there are only two suspects in custody, the deceased’s sister (Flora) and the UNILAG student (Collins). I am not aware of any other arrests.<br /><br />“Also, I am not aware of any N350, 000 bail because bail is free. Investigations are ongoing and we will get to the bottom of it.”

Two whistle-blowers appeared before the Senate in Abuja yesterday and
 admitted paying N250,000 each to secure appointments in the Ministries 
of Lands and Housing, Information, Works, Trade and Investment, aided 
principally by staff of the federal agencies.<br />
<br />

Mrs. Rose Nkarishor Odey and Idachaba Tijani told the 
Senate Committee on Federal Character and Inter-Governmental Affairs 
that the job-for-sale racket was being allegedly spearheaded by one 
Juliet Egobunor and Simon Odujebe.<br />
<br />

The duo claimed to work for the Ministry of Lands and Housing from 
where they fleeced nnocent Nigerians of N250,000 each with the promise 
of employment in any federal ministry.<br />
<br />

In the letter before the committee, titled: Petition against Juliet 
Egobunor and Simon Odujebe for issuing me fake appointment letter for 
N250,000, dated March 25, 2013, Odey tendered an Offer of Temporary 
Appointment letter purportedly issued on the letter head of the Federal 
Civil Service Commission, dated September 5, 2007 with Ref No: 
FC.7000/C.4261/19. The said appointment letter, a copy of which  was 
obtained by Daily Sun, signed by one Ahmed S. Dantanko offered Odey, 
whose address was stated as 16, Bolarinwa Street, Molete, Ibadan, Oyo 
State, was appointed as Administrative Officer II on salary Grade Level 
08, Step 02 which is N164,272.00 per annum.<br />
<br />

Odey’s appointment, as with many others in various ministries, was 
equally captured in the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the 
Federation Gazette Section of October 18, 2011.<br />
<br />

Besides, Odey attached a circular, which allegedly emanated from the 
Permanent Secretary, Career Management Office in the Office of the Head 
of the Civil Service of the Federation marked: HCSF/PSO/002/S.I/Tiii of 
January 25,2012 which “approved the posting of 
newly-appointed/transferred Administrative Officers into the Federal 
Civil Service as in the attached format…<br />
<br />

“The postings are with immediate effect and all officers are to 
report not later than Friday, February 2012.” One Mrs. Kehinde Ajoni, 
Permanent Secretary (CMO), reportedly signed the circular on behalf of 
the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation.<br />
<br />

But Odey admitted before the committee yesterday that she was given 
the appointment in April, 2012 and could not explain why the  letter 
given her by Juliet read September, 2007. In her testimony before the 
committee, an obviously Mrs. Odey carefully detailed how the deal was 
struck in the house of her sister, Martina, and how for eight months she
 worked without any salary.<br />
<br />

Odey was initially given an employment letter for the Ministry of 
Information before she was “transferred” to the Trade and Investment 
Ministry. That was where the illegal transactions were exposed. All 
efforts to retrieve her N250,000 has since failed.<br />
<br />

The racket blew open when she went for registration in the ministry 
and it was discovered that she shared the same employment number with 
two other men! The racketeers then offered her another slot.<br />

Tijani was not so lucky. He worked for only some months before he was apprehended as a fake staff of the Works Ministry.<br />
<br />

Quickly, Tijani demanded a refund but has only succeeded in getting N100,000 back from Egobunor and Odujebe.<br />
<br />

When it was his turn to testify , Tijani, who wore white buba and 
sokoto and for the most part of the confession kept his head bowed, 
re-echoed the employment story of Mrs. Odey.<br />
<br />

He was, however, lucky because he has, so far, managed to evade 
arrest and was also able to retrieve N100,000 from the N250,000 he paid 
to the job racketeers.<br />
<br />

Tijani’s words: “I met Egobunor who I offered N250,000 for 
employment. After that, I was posted to the Ministry of Works in April 
2012 and my appointment letter was duly signed. From there, I was posted
 to a department in the ministry.<br />
<br />

“On May 30, I was apprehended because the documents regarding my 
appointment were fake and I was asked where the documents were from. I 
cooperated fully with them and told them who gave me the appointment 
letter.<br />
<br />

“I was thereafter taken to the Ministry of Lands and Housing to 
confront Juliet but before we got there, she had left office. I was 
asked to go for that day and report back the following day but I didn’t 
go back as asked, because I was afraid of being arrested.<br />
<br />

“Somehow, I met Egobunor and demanded for a refund and she sent me to
 Simon Odujebe who told me categorically that a refund was not easy but 
instead, offered to take me to a new ministry. I refused that offer and 
we ended up bargaining for how much to get back from the initial 
N250,000 I had paid. I was offered 60 per cent of the N250,000, but I 
demanded for 80 per cent instead because I just wanted my money at that 
point. In November, I was given N100,000 and I was supposed to have been
 reimbursed another N50,000 which I have not got till date. Odujebe sent
 a text message to me, promising to refund the N50,000 and the message 
is still in my phone as I speak before you…<br />
<br />

“That is why I came here with my petition, hoping that something will be done…”<br />
<br />

On cross-examination from the co-Chairman of the committee, Senator 
Wilson Ake, how he, Tijani, came about the appointment letter which read
 2007 instead of 2012, Tijani replied: “I don’t know why they gave me an
 appointment letter reading 2007 when I was employed in April 2012… I 
don’t know why they did all these because I have no experience in civil 
service. I cannot explain the discrepancies.”<br />

Ake asked Tijani whether he signed any acknowledgement letter from the ministry on his employment to which he simply said: No.<br />
<br />

He said that Egobunor only gave him some letters purportedly for his employment.<br />
<br />

In attendance was the Deaconess Tolani Ayo, Chairman of the Federal 
Civil Service Commission (FCSC), who asked for time to investigate the 
authenticity of the letter cum circular bandied by Mrs. Odey.<br />
<br />

The Senator Dahiru Awaisu Kuta-led joint committee demanded the FCSC 
chairman return today with more evidence. The public hearing continues 
today.<br />
