Murder: Bail Granted To Rivers House Leader

 <b>The police on Wednesday granted administrative bail to the 
detained leader of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Hon. Chidi Julius
 Lloyd, after spending five days in detention.</b><br />

Lloyd, who represents Emohua Constituency in the House, was arrested by 
the police at about 6.30 pm on January 2, 2013, on an allegation that he
 deliberately killed a policeman, Sergeant Urang Obediah and a civilian,
 Mr Kingsley Ejehuo, along the East-west road on December 30, 2013.</div>

Legal representative of the detained lawmaker, Mr. Emenike Ebete, told 
journalists in Port Harcourt, said he was granted administrative bail 
with a condition that he must deposit his international passport with 
the police, as well as provide two sureties, one of which must deposit a
 certificate of occupancy (C of O).</div>

The arrest of Lloyd deepened the face-off between Governor Chibuike 
Rotimi Amaechi and the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Mbu Joseph Mbu, as 
both disagreed on the allegation levelled against the lawmaker.</div>

The police, had in a statement, said the lawmaker was arrested on his 
way to the Air-Force base in Port Harcourt, to join Amaechi in a private
 jet in an attempt to evade police arrest, even when Ebete insisted that
 he was with Lloyd in his residence in Port Harcourt when he was 
arrested.</div>

But, the governor, who spoke through his chief press secretary, David 
Iyofor, said the position of the police on matter was an attempt to 
hoodwink the public and discredit the governor.</div>

He said; “In another attempt to hoodwink the public and discredit the 
Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, the state police command had 
released a completely distorted and untrue account of the circumstances 
surrounding the arrest of the leader of the House of Assembly, Hon. 
Chidi Lloyd on January 2, 2014.</div>

“We emphatically state that Governor Amaechi has no private plane or jet

A banker, Mr Theophilus Ajakaiye, has been sentenced to death by hanging by
an Abia State High Court for the October 12, 2009 murder of his wife, Theodora
at Azumini Ndoki in the Ukwa Judicial Division of the state.<br />
<br />

The charge read, “The accused person is charged with one-count of murder
contrary to Section 319 (1) of the Criminal Code Vol. 11, Cap 30 Laws of
Eastern Nigeria, 1963, applicable in Abia State.”<br />

Until her death, Theodora was an employee of Guaranty Trust Bank Plc. Her
murder had set off a legal battle between her family and the accused.<br />
<br />

In his judgment, the Presiding Judge, Justice T.U. Uzokwe, said that having
heard from the accused person, learned counsel for the accused and the
prosecuting counsel, the offence carried a mandatory sentence which is death.<br />
<br />

He said that the court had no power to reduce the sentence and that being
the case; he had no option but to sentence the accused.<br />
<br />

The judge said, “Though the accused was not seen killing the deceased, I
find that the accumulated circumstantial facts proved that the accused indeed
murdered his wife, Theodora Ajakaiye.<br />

“Suffice it to say that I find the accused guilty as charged and I convict
him accordingly.”<br />
<br />

The sentence read, “Theophilus Ajakaiye – the sentence of this court upon
you is that you be hanged by the neck until you be dead and may the merciful
Lord have mercy on your soul.”<br />

In the allocutus, counsel for the accused pleaded mercy on behalf of his
client.<br />
<br />

He said, “I thank the court for this well-considered judgment. The accused
has no criminal record. We plead for mercy. There are two children to the
marriage and they have already lost their mother. <br />

staff — middle-school dropouts working alongside unlicensed medical

 according to prosecutors. The woman who performed ultrasounds had an 
8th grade education and phlebotomy certification for drawing blood. 
Another employee who worked in the operating room was a 15-year-old girl
 still attending high school.<br />

Former employee Stephen Massof, an unlicensed medical school 
graduate, described snipping babies’ spinal cords as “literally a 
beheading.” He told the court that “it would rain fetuses.”<br />
<br />

<em><strong>The more women paid, the more anesthesia they received.</strong></em><br />
<br />
Gosnell allegedly gave <em><strong>preferential treatment to white patients</strong></em>, whom he would meet with one-on-one before their procedures.<br />

Gosnell’s clinic operated for nearly 20 years without being inspected by the Pennsylvania Department of Health.<br />

It earned the nickname “House of Horrors” largely because of a 2011 
grand jury report that described the office as a “baby charnel house.”<br />

From the District Attorney’s office: “The clinic reeked of animal 
urine, courtesy of the cats that were allowed to roam (and defecate) 
freely. Furniture and blankets were stained with blood. Instruments were
 not properly sterilized. Disposable medical supplies were not disposed 
of; they were reused, over and over again.<br />
