Men in India are already beginning to celebrate as the annual Assam Rape Festival is just days away. Every non-married girl age 7-16 will have the chance to flee to safety or get raped.
Madhuban Ahluwalia who heads up the annual festival told reporters why the event is so important.
“This is a long time tradition in Assam dating back thousands of years,” says Ahluwalia.
“We rape the evil demons out of the girls, otherwise they will cheat on us and we will be forced to kill them. So it is necessary for everyone.”

The Assam Festival began in 43 BC when Baalkrishan Tamil Nadu raped everyone in his village of Doomdooma.
Baalkrishan Tamil Nadu is remembered every year at this event, in fact the trophy given to the man with the most rapes is called “The Baalkrishan”.

24-year-old Harikrishna Majumdar told reporters that he has been training all year for this event.
“I’m going to get the most rapes this year. I’ve been practicing all year. I rape my sister and her friends every day. I will be rape superstar number one! I will get the Baalkrishan prize this year for sure!”
12-year-old Jaitashri Majumdar told reporters she almost made it through last year’s festival without getting raped.

“I came so close to not getting raped. I almost got to the ‘rape-free-zone’ at the edge of town, but at the last minute 9 men jumped on me and raped me.
“Luckily I am just recovering now so I can participate in this year’s events, otherwise I would be put to death by stoning.”
34-year-old Brian Barnett from Toronto who is visiting Assam on business told reporters he will be missing the festivities this year.

“My company did not tell me anything about a rape festival happening while I was here. Are you serious, a rape festival? I’m getting the f*ck out of this backwards country tonight.”
India is second in reported rapes in the world only behind the United States, though critics are quick to point out that is only because most rapes in India go unreported.

An 11-year-old Indian girl who was reportedly set on fire after 
resisting an attempted rape died of her injuries Sunday, according to 
reports. The minor was admitted with critical burn injuries, but the 
hospital where she was treated said, she has succumbed to her injuries.<br /><br />According
 to The Times of India, the attack happened Wednesday, July 31, in 
Salkia. The victim was reportedly doused in kerosene and set on fire by 
two men who had attempted to rape her. She had said she recognized the 
men and had threatened to tell her parents.<br />

She suffered burns on 70 percent of her body. One of the suspects, who 
is 18 has been arrested and charged with attempted rape and attempted 
murder.<br /><br />Last month, two similar incidents were reported. An 
18-year-old was set on fire by a group of men as she was going home in 
the country's northern Uttar Pradesh state. That same month, a 
20-year-old college student was reportedly set on fire after claiming 
she was raped. <br /><br />

Bollywood actress Jiah Khan, who made her debut starring opposite acting
legend Amitabh Bachchan, died in an apparent suicide at her home in the Indian
city of Mumbai, police said on Tuesday.<br />
<br />

The 25-year-old Khan, who grew up in London before moving to India for a
career in Bollywood, was found dead in her home by her family, an officer said.
Police were interviewing her neighbours, the officer said, adding that no
suicide note was found.<br />
<br />

“We suspect she hung herself at her home” late on Monday, a police official
told AFP, saying that her body has been sent for a post mortem.<br />
<br />
Khan, who was born in New York before moving to London and then Mumbai, made
her Bollywood debut in 2007 with the controversial film “Nishabd” (No words),
playing the role of a teenager in love with her best friend’s much older
father, played by Bachchan.<br />
<br />

The movie received average reviews because of its provocative storyline but
Khan was praised for her bold acting.<br />

Khan, who changed her name from Nafisa Khan, went on to star alongside actor
Aamir Khan in “Ghajini”, a box-office hit.<br />

Three engineering students in India have developed “anti-rape” 
lingerie, which they claim will help women fend off unwanted sexual 
advances.<br />
<br />

The garments—named Society Harnessing Equipment (SHE)—have been wired
 with pressure sensors and equipped with an “electric-shock circuit 
board,” which delivers up to 82 electric shocks when the garments detect
 unwanted force. Using a GPS system, the undergarments can also 
apparently send an alert to parents or police.<br />
<br />

As the students described the <a href="http://www.techpedia.in/award/upload/award_profile/she-society-harnessing-equipment-2013.pdf?PHPSESSID=fa6da85be4d4f718c376ccddda85dafd" target="_blank">project</a>,
 the inside of the garments are insulated with polymer—with a circuit 
placed near the bosom, “because in the attempt of rape or roadside 
eve-teasing, as per survey, women are attacked first on their bosom.” 
(Eve-teasing is an Indian euphemism for harassment.)<br />
<br />

One of its creators, Manisha Mohan, an engineering student at SRM University in Chennai, told <i><a href="http://articles.timesofindia.indiatimes.com/2013-04-02/ahmedabad/38217622_1_engineering-student-srm-university-gps" target="_blank">The Times of India</a></i>:
 “A person trying to molest a girl will get the shock of his life the 
moment pressure sensors get activated, and the GPS and GSM modules would
 send an SMS [to the Indian emergency number] as well as to parents of 
the girl.”<br />
<br />

According to <i><a href="http://articles.timesofindia.indiatimes.com/2013-04-02/ahmedabad/38217622_1_engineering-student-srm-university-gps" target="_blank">The Times of India,</a></i> Mohan
 says she is working on finding a fabric that will allow for the garment
 to be washed and that they are planning to begin “commercial rollout” 
this month. It’s still unclear how the garments will be able to 
differentiate between unwanted and wanted sexual advances—or if they 
will be smart enough never to shock the woman who is wearing them. 
Because of the complexity of the engineering, it’s also unclear how 
accessible the product could ever be.<br />
<br />

A website for the project reveals what looks like <a href="http://www.techpedia.in/award/upload/award_profile/she-society-harnessing-equipment-2013.pdf" target="_blank">what looks like</a> a white nightgown with wiring between the breasts. Mohan cited India’s recent Delhi and <a href="http://articles.timesofindia.indiatimes.com/2013-02-02/bangalore/36702717_1_gang-scrap-merchant-bangalore" target="_blank">Bangalore</a>rape tragedies as inspirations for the development of the product.<br />

“The lawmakers take ages to come up with just laws and even after that, women are unsafe,” the students <a href="http://www.techpedia.in/award/upload/award_profile/she-society-harnessing-equipment-2013.pdf?PHPSESSID=fa6da85be4d4f718c376ccddda85dafd" target="_blank">wrote</a> on
 their website. “Hence, we have initiated the idea of self‐defense which
 protects he women from domestic, social and workplace harassment.”<br />
